Think Rajamouli meant the Telugu Mayabazar, one of the greats. You should def watch it. It's so much fun and so so far ahead in the filmmaking department since it came out in late 50s. It's available on Amazon Prime in India. Outside of it I think it would be hard to find a decent copy with English subtitles. It is also available both as B&W movie, and later colourised with remastered audio. Watch the latter.

It is a honest list, I have watched all and mayabazar is a fav and I like all ( maybe not favs though)

It reflects his filmmaking and he is honestly stating that, you can see the list and guess his style. he is not changing himself or his tastes to sound posh or intellectual and add in a satyajit ray, Bergman or Kurosawa for the effect. I respect him for that and hope he remains so. Finally it shows why he or rrr is a hit with the west, there are influences from all these movies but he is true to himself and not some wannabe following trends

Is it honest though? It seems very focus grouped to appeal to Americans. Only big budget box office hits but those which are generally well liked in the film bro circuits. The general lack of Indian films. No mention of anything non American. Spielberg twice, Tarantino.

The only thing honest seems to be the random Mel Gibson insert. I assume those really were on his mood board for Baahubali/RRR. 😆

It is, I have followed his interviews from before he became pan india and he has mentioned all these movies time and again and discussed them in detail. In fact there was an interview earlier this year where he did this. You can see the influence of a lion king and gibsons movies on his work. He is a huge Gibson fan so nothing random and gibsons style is very massy for the need of a better word. He says that inglorious gave him the idea of historical characters in fiction and again taratino is also kitschy.
I don’t think he watched too many Hindi movies to select them, he may have picked a couple more telugu movies at the most.
also mm Keeravani said that he loves animated movies and again shows in his style.

Gibson and Forrest Gump have negative connotations in America so if he wanted to impress he would have dropped them and gone for some thing more mainstream like Scorsese or god father

Film bro movies are more off beat definitely not Alladin or kung fu panda

I will find it more suspect if he names some French movie which I am not sure he watches

And finally he wants his movies to be big blockbusters so will choose similar
