Credit goes to music and family content of film.

Indian cinema was giving vulgar shit in 80s and early 90s.

HAHK was the first ever clean film that brought families to theatres and single handedly changed how weddings and family functions are celebrated in India.

It cleaned Madhuri's image also after she got flak for Choli ke peeche kya hai type songs and turned her into a family audience heroine from a masala heroine.

Madhuri was bigger star than Salman at that time and had hits like Saajan, Beta, Khalnayak behind her. Salman was also upcoming star with ATBB MPK, hits like Saajan, Sanam Bewafa but not as huge as MD back then.

So content, music and Madhuri get more credit and Salman was addition as a fresh face.

Madhuri also worked with Khans to remain relevant and not age herself onscreen only acting with Anils or Jackies. She knew younger audience was liking Khans more as success of MPK, QSQT, Deewana showed way forward.
