Same is the case with theatre, I can buy ticket, then if I walk out after 15 min, still that ticket will contribute in box office collection.

But you're still giving the money for the two hour long movie and not just for the fifteen minutes. Idhar box office hi nahi hai toh what will your view contribute? How do you declare a movie hit by views? You only declare it hit by money.

Subscribers pay money to Netflix for a monthly subscription. They aren't watching it for free on Netflix. So what if you watch it for 15 minutes or for the whole movie. You are paying your monthly whether you watch it or not.

Yes, a monthly subscription of Rs.149 on mobile with account sharing for over 4000 titles is equal to paying Rs.250 in a multiplex for one single film!

There's a reason why Netflix is flopping in India and things are getting worse every quarter for them with losing membership. How will that subscription help Netflix if it loses around a million subscribers in just one quarter in India? It's still a loss making platform thereby incurring loses for the films they have bought in such hefty amount.

That Rs.149 is more reason to watch more films rather than spend 250 on a single film. This increases viewing, that's y more ppl watch that film which they might not watch in theatre. Why is it so hard to digest that a new film is watched by certain no. of ppl?

About Netflix, that is whole different debate.

It's not a different debate because the film has released on Netflix! Darlings has been bought by the platform as a Netflix original so technically they are now the producers/exhibitor of the film. If they are not getting their value back for the investments they have made to buy this film then how is it a profit for them? Views toh waise bhi ani hai because of the past subscribers.

It's hard to digest because films bhi unki aur numbers bhi unki that too with a flawed metric. It's like I'm the invigilator, I'm the student and I'm the examiner. 😆

How do you know it is flawed? Do you have the real figures?

By their metrics. The counting of views as a metric to judge the success of a film. Why just me even Netflix isn't sure about their new way of counting views and terms it as a 'slightly better' way of calculating viewership😆

We think engagement as measured by hours viewed is a slightly better indicator of the overall success of our titles and member satisfaction,” the CEOs wrote in the quarterly letter to shareholders. “It also matches how outside services measure TV viewing and gives proper credit to rewatching. In addition, we will start to release title metrics more regularly outside of our earnings report so our members and the industry can better measure success in the streaming world.”

'We think' , 'slightly better', 'success in the streaming world'... all vague words thrown in without any standardization amongst platforms. Isliye film bhi hamari aur numbers bhi hamari... because there's no third party involved. 😆
