Is Aishwarya Rai a Tamil/Telugu regional heroine now? - Page 2

Not that there's anything necessarily untoward about the term "regional cinema"... BUT two things:

1. The name Aishwarya Rai and the word "regional" do not go together in any sort of sentence except my one here which points out the oxymoronity. She has been and will always be a Global Superstar. So do please join the 30th Year celebrations with us next year at your nearest L'Oreal branch.

2. Ash's first film is in fact Iruvar (1997) which, yes you guessed right, is a film in the Tamil language.

Ashu-ma has acted in films in 5 different languages: Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, English (additionally her character in the 2016 Hindi film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (🥳) spoke in Urdu.

Aishwarya has always done films in other languages throughout her career. And she never denigrated them either. Unlike Sridevi who said she only did Devaraagam with Aravind Swami in Tamil only to please her mother. Nevermind that Devaraagam had a sizeable role role for the heroine. And the director was Bharathan one of the maestros of Malayalam cinema and was well known for melding art with commercial.

You act like she is Meryl Streep or in the league of acting greats. Aishwarya was always known as a pretty face. Her filmography is decent, but nothing out of this world. She was average in her acting and always will be. If she stood the test of time, she wouldn't have to rely on regional films to stay active. She hasn't had a Hindi film release in years.

Didn’t she win a Filmfare award down South? They obviously love her down there.

There’s nothing for her to do in Bollywood anyways so she might as well work over there

She can always do a few movies with Shahrukh Khan. Khan owes her since she lost those films many years ago. Maybe she can play Alia's mom in a KJO movie and do ADHM 2 or something.

Or an Aditya Chopra film in the role of an evil aunt or sister. Don't you think?

Or keep doing Mani Ratnam and Rajnikanth films the rest of her life. 😒

The problem is Ash is too lazy and not sharp enough otherwise there is a lot more she can do.

But then alia would whine to kjo abt her mother being prettier than her, so kjo will outcast aish 😭

Have you ever seen filmakers cast someone so beautiful as the evil aunt or sister in movies?

Mani and Rajni are both very talented, so there's no need to 😒 If shes doing a film with them

Now where did I say that she was a towering talent? She's a dependable actress who does justice to the roles for which she was chosen. And why you speak as if doing a regional film is some sort of demotion? That's the sort of parochial vision that we have to get rid of. There was a time when every Indian actress dreamed of getting cast in a Mani Ratnam film. He obviously does not relegate them as mere eyecandy but also writes substantial roles and his films often revolve around the female characters.
