Isn't it ironic that an insider made Luck By Chance?

Almost a decade before Kangana made nepotism a household name, Zoya Akhtar was calling it out in Luck By Chance.

Zoya Akhtar is too familiar with the spotlight to be dazzled by it. Luck By Chance is the depth of an insider's gaze and I see it as an angsty love letter to Bollywood.

I love this movie - I still think it's Zoya's best. Tender, nuanced, and one that ends on a note of hope as Sona (Konkona Sen Sharma) redefines success for herself.

What's your take on this movie?

A lot is covered there.

Dimple Kapadia's character talks about the casting couch.

Isha Sharvani is the spoiled, untalented even dumb star, kid. (I don't mean to generalize but that is how she is portrayed.

No one ends up winning.

But an outsider's victory is not letting the system get to them. Regarding Kokona, how her family initially had a problem with her being in movies.

Later they were happy with her even being in a successful tv serial. They realized that instead of being married off and dependent on someone else. She was standing on her own two feet. That alone is an accomplishment.

Yeah, no idealistic dreams sold. Just a harsh portrayal of reality.

But the same Zoya was defending nepotism in an interview two years ago.
