9 days ago when the flights were still running, these same students refused to go apparently because they didn’t want to miss their classes. Now when the water is above their head, they have realized they needed help. Ukraine’s airspace is closed as of now but the embassies from the neighboring countries have parked themselves at the border of Ukraine and are urging all the Indians to move to the borders so that they can pick them up. This is truly such an unfortunate situation for everyone. :(

9 days ago Indian government did not give clear instructions as they said if your prefer your should go. Only 2 days ago they said you must leave Ukraine. The flight tickets for those 9 days flight were 4 times of normal price (20-25k vs 80-100k), not every student has that kind of money to arrange in just 9 days. Many of these students were from final year and they had last exam to take. They were scared if they leave now what will happen to their degree and career. They did not get any confirmation from University and Indian government took a long time to talk with Universities and sort that issue. And as instructions from government were not clear earlier and it was about students' 3-4 years of study, degree and careere many of them were skeptical about returning.

It feels government was exploting students in such times by hiking prices of flights. Not every student that goes to study in Ukraine is from rich family.

Government of India will arrange evacuation flights for Indian nationals in Ukraine, cost will be borne by the government.

Yeah they did hike flight prices maybe because it was not official rescue mission like airlift one or one that they are planning to do now. But still does not justify hiking prices in such situations that too for students.
