Watching the funeral rites was unreal...broke down numerous times and had to control my emotions a lot so that my parents would not worry.

As a child who was bullied a lot in school, the radio was my best friend. It was tradition in my family (something my grandmother insisted upon), so I spent all my time at home listening to songs from the Golden Era. Even when I was in school, I'd sit by myself and hum those tunes. Now when I look back, I realise what an integral part of my life Lata Ji was. And all her contemporaries too.

Om Shaanti Lata Ji ❤️💔

Rest In Peace Lataji.

It is an end of an era. You will be missed dearly.

Every time I listen to Ay mere watan ke logo, my eyes gets moist.

You were amazing. Your voice brought peace and solace to so many. I wish the same peace to your soul. Om Shanti!

She may have left her body but she will never leave the music lovers’ hearts and will live on as long as the time. She lived like a queen and going away like a queen. RIP Lata ma! ❤️

Though it’s impossible to list out all the songs that she touched my heart with, but a couple of songs from the top of my memory.

I choke up every single time I listen to this song.

This is the most devastating news i heard in recent decades.

Lata ji defined an era. She is an era in herself. A career spanning 8 decades and several generations.

There is no other singer who has had that kind of voice, talent, longevity, grasp of sur, leh, taal. She is monumental figure. She is encyclopedia of Indian film music and biggest legend subcontinent ever produced in field of music.

Her passing away marks fag end of golden era. Asha ji is the only one left alive from golden era.

Lata ji will forever remain etched in hearts. No singer can come close to her. Her impact, her range.

She was also earliest ones to assert right to equal pay and share in profits for singers. Also a single, unmarried, childfree woman achiever who raised her siblings on her own, made her dad proud and established hospitals and philanthropic initiatives too. A strong patriot and knew many languages.

Raised funds for soldiers, war widows and war orphans. Moved even PM Nehru to tears with her songs.

Her rendition of Vande Mataram is greatest ever.

She dominated like no one did. Lata ji is once in a millennium type phenomenon. There will never be anyone like her again.

Lata ji also had impeccable professionalism, respect, class, dignity, decent demeanour. No cheap antics to get popular or seek publicity.

Her name alone was enough and she gave biggest hits to everyone from Madhubala to Madhuri to Preity Zinta.

The sweetest voice with most accomplished 'pakad' on sur, taal, leh and exceptionally controlled voice.

Who can forget her haunting voice in Gumnaam and Kahi deep jale kahi dil?

Pure magic.

Irreparable loss to world of music and South Asia.

You will be missed Lata ji. RIP.
