I have probably watched more films... south...north, east and west than many many people..anywhere ...and it is NOT the quality or content of the product, because it is like every other movie industry in the world (Not some unmentioned European countries-They make nothing but crap) they make good they make bad and they make everything in between...just like Bollywood, it is the public they serve and the logistics, my previous comment about taking time for things to catch up stands tall...

In India the pecking order as I see it is as follows, still:

Hindi

Tamil

Telugu

Malayalam

Kannada

Bengali

Marathi

Punjabi

If there is a natural bounce back and stabilization post "pandemic" it will remain as it is.

If things do not get stable with restrictions and current agendas to destroy Bollywood then, yes other industries will catch up. The best thing that can happen is a unification of film industries in the entire country...something that would be a small miracle (that is a whole other chapter).

I did not factor in some Hollywood films that take a lion's share of the market globally....Hollywood is also hurting by the way...

As per Darwin "Theory of Evolution" unless Bollywood evolves to match the quality of world cinema or even match regional cinema it will eventually be EXTINCT like Dinosaurs...

The struggle for existence had already begun.... Now it will be survival of the fittest. The recent box office debacle of "83" and "Chandigarh" despite so many positive reviews is one fine example of that struggle.

While "Pushpa" was roaring with "full on masala", 83 was screening in empty theaters.

As per the theory of evolution, only who are fit will survive, which clearly means now only actors/actress who has either strong star power or who have strong acting power will be able to survive, all other crappy so called stars will eventually phase out like ; Uday Chopra, Tusshar, Abhishek, Jaccky Vaghnani, etc etc. Which is good for Bollywood.

Eventually we will now be able to see "full on masala entertainers with big stars" or quality acting heavy on story movies in the Cinema's, all other crap will now directly air on OTT.

Sooryavanshi was an out and out masala flick too..

Does it mean that after being cooped up in homes since the advent of COVID, people wanted to watch some light-hearted, mindless stuff instead of stuffs high on emotional and mental quotient?? But then the likes of Radhe has failed...

I don't think Bollywood is going anywhere but as you have rightly pointed out, "evolution" is the key. With access to unlimited OTT platforms and with the world cinema being just a click away, it is time to reassess and reinvent. But most importantly, a business, any business for that matter, needs to be tailored according to the behavioral idiosyncrasies of target customers. Besides, right "Timing" is as important.

Seems so..like if we were to sit n ponder over issues, made up issues and non issues we get enough time n fodder at home..internet and news channels r full of such topics..

People will step out for something refreshing

If you go out and watch a movie, you want to be entertained during the entire duration, if boring in parts people are so used to fast forward that they do not want to watch it.

Sooryavanshi, Spiderman were out and out entertainers, not boring at all. Pushpa had the whole anti hero and underdog vibe which generally do well

83 and Chandigarh kare Aashiqui were good films.

83 with a budget of 60 crores would have done well and recovered, but where did they spend the 270 crores, still trying to figure it out.

Chandigarh a high concept movie had too much of a Punjabi dialect which will not work pan India in fact Pushpa worked outside more than its own domestic states because many could not understand the dialogues as they were a particular dialect where as the dubbed versions just had normal language.

So entertainment with simple language will work.

High concept or particular dialect films should cut down their budgets by half for them to do well

Films like Badhai ho, shubh Mangal saavdhan , stree were lower budget films so did extremely well.

A stree with a budget of 200 cr would definitely flop

This year Sooryavanshi, Spiderman, Pushpa and Shershah if it would have released in theatres would have done well.

Great music, emotional quotient, simple language and humour is the key

I don’t know about the rest, but my family and relatives don’t watch BW movies anymore. We all used to wait for them so eagerly to watch. Now that’s a very rare occasion. The new movies are just not the same as the old ones. The last few movies we still waited and watched eagerly were Salman’s movies like Ready, Bodyguard and BB, but now even his recent movies like Tubelight etc haven’t been good. Miss the old BW movies 😢

90s-2000s Bollywood era was the best, now they have lost their charm imho
