Does Sooryavanshi break the pattern?

From 2016 to 2020, every year the highest grossing film at the box office is either a biopic or an action film:

2016 - Dangal (Biopic of Mahavir Phogat)

2017 - Tiger Zinda Hain (Action film)

2018 - Sanju (Biopic of Sanjay Dutt)

2019 - War (Action film)

2020 - Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (Biopic of Tanhaji Malusare)

Sooryavanshi is the highest grosser of 2021, but I'm not sure if it should be put in action or masala genre because I haven't watched the film.

I've watched Singham and Singham Returns and I would put them in masala genre. Haven't watched Simmba but that film is also recognized as a masala movie.

So naturally I expect Sooryavanshi to be a masala movie as well rather than just action because they all belong to the same franchise.

Do you consider Sooryavanshi to be an action or masala movie?

Action masala is a genre itself

Comedy masala is one also

I feel precisely why it succeeded as it was not a period film nor a biopic.

It is an action masala film.

And much to chagrin of hate mongers and few people across the border, it is also a patriotic film. 🤣
