Abhishek says Amitabh advised him against studying acting in the US

Abhishek also revealed how Amitabh reacted on learning that he was studying acting in the US. He said, “Jab main university mein tha, Boston mein, aur acting seekh raha tha… Maine apne pitaji se baat ki ki main actor banna chahta hoon, main training le raha hoon. His first response was, ‘Very good, wapas ghar aa jao’ (When I was studying acting in my university in Boston, I told my father that I wanted to become an actor and was training for it. His first response was, ‘Very good, now come back home’).

Explaining himself, Amitabh said that Abhishek’s anglicised education would not help with the Hindi audience. “Tum Shakespeare, yeh sab seekh rahe ho, ye sab yahaan nahi chalna hai. Idhar aake bhasha seekho pehle. Bhasha seekhoge, acting khud ba khud aa jayegi (You are studying William Shakespeare’s dramas, all this won’t work here.

Come back here and learn the language, acting will come to you naturally),” Amitabh told Abhishek.

He is a good actor

Amitabh was 100% right. Indian audience has different sensitivities and sensibilities. The culture and social milieu are different. Aamir had also advised Imran to backpack across India, travel the country to know it if he wanted to be a good actor.

Studying filmmaking or acting abroad is useless if one wants to make it in Indian film industry.

Learning Indian languages, studying Indian films and actors, literature, society serves an actor better in long run.

Yes some improve after many years but they do not become brillaint like dilip kumar al pacina robert de nero etc

In born talent is there but the actors you named also worked hard to develop their craft and skill as actors, worked on voice, dialogue delivery and researched to prepare for every character they played.

Amitabh, Vinod Khanna, Naseer, Om Puri, Shatrughan Sinha, Shabana, Pankaj Tripathi, Nawaz, Manoj Bajpai, Rajkumar Rao etc all have trained as actors. SRK also took training and did theatre before entering film industry.

Some have learnt and developed skill and gone from being weak actors to good actors. Rekha is a big example of this.

Star quality can not be taught - acting definitely can. There are a huge number of working British actors in America - statistically far over represented - because in England acting is treated as a proper career and they go to drama school and it shows.

British Drama schools though take students who show talent and aptitude to begin with - admission is competitive. But yes they treat it as a profession where skills and talent are developed and honed.

It would be one thing if Amitabh told Abhi that he should study in India instead of the U.S. but instead he told him "learn the language, acting will come to you naturally" - as if he were born to be an actor and need not train at it. That and he encouraged him to drop out of college instead of transferring to one in India. Which is odd because Jaya went to the Film and Television Institute of India and Amitabh is a college and university graduate.

I think Abhishek is lying or exaggerating what was told to him. Both his parents have either graduated from college or gone to film school. I can't see them encouraging him to drop out. It makes no sense at all. I think he didn't want to continue so he didn't and is now making stories around it.

It's like he was telling him 'you don't have to try so hard, you're going to get opportunities anyway...

Even if countless of your movies flop, still you'll get to work in best projects, and get to stay in the industry unlike any other actor including star kids before, so don't bother'

And Abhishek couldn't speak Hindi? Why did he needed to learn the language
