The 'superior' actors did not succeed at all on TV when they did it. Only Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Danny Denzogpa, Soni Razdan, Dalip Tahil succeeded in Tamas, Mirza Ghalib, Bharat Ek Khoj and Buniyaad and Ashok Kumar succeeded as narrator in Vikram Betaal, Hum Log and Dada dadi ki kahaniyan. Or Kiran Kumar succeeded in some serials like Ghutan, Aur Fir ek din, Karan the detective.

Film stars usually flopped when they did fictional stuff on TV and rely only on non fiction format to make it on TV.

Stars do not need to do Kyunki saas bhi Kabhi Bahu thi. They fail even in short series, telefilms, episodics.

Amitabh's Yudh was not a saas bahu show but it flopped despite critical acclaim.

Anyway film stars flop even in family drama sagas - eg Rajesh Khanna's serials and Vinod Khanna in Mere Apne.
