Do any of you have a bad boss? What makes them a bad boss? And how are you coping?

I am dealing with a silly idiot as my boss in this new project. He doesn't take any responsibility and simply blames the slightest failure on me. But if it goes well, he is happy to take credit.

Please tell me how to deal with such a-holes!!

Is there anyone else in the team or someone else above this boss of yours? I'd find a way to CC another person, preferably someone senior to him, in every task that matters, making it obvious who is actually doing the work. I'd talk to trusted coworkers too in the same team if there are any ... and find a way to CC them along for the ride too.

There are people above my boss but they are much closer to my boss, so unfortunately they are a lot less likely to listen to what I say, and would rather believe him instead.

Well... that sucks. He's obviously doing it cuz he thinks he can get away with it, knowing that he's well connected. It's disgusting. I'd probably look for ways to get out of the client or team if there is someone else out of his "circle" who has a sway and can get you a different client.

Or if it's a long term project and there's no way around it, I'd look for another job, preferably at a bigger and better competitor, have an offer in hand and threaten to quit. Win-win!

When I started my career as an editorial assistant, I had a horrible boss. well, horrible also is an understatement. She was controlling, mean, and abusive. She made me do all the work and took credit for it. But somehow, she mellowed with time as my work was actually good enough and I made sure to work my ass off, she finally gave me the elusive promotion! so all's well that ends well!

I've realised that the way to win over a horrible person's heart is to not stoop to their level and just be as nice and respectful as possible. Sometimes, it actually works!

That is horrendous. So sorry to hear that.

You NEED to keep a daily diary IMMEDIATELY. Write down details of ALL the bullying/comments/gaslighting/unfairness with dates and times.

If it comes to a disciplinary action, this is the only way you'll have a leg to stand on.

I've had to do this sooooo many times, I'm well experienced. Because I'm such a sweet guy, people think they can take advantage of me. Next thing you know, I've called up HR and they're suspended while under investigation. Meanwhile I'm applying to another job and got a doctor's letter to be signed off WITH PAY for 8 weeks.

B!tch Better Have My MONEY!!!

(I know I just made it sound "'glamorous"", it's not really, because there's been times when I was unemployed because I REFUSED to be treated like SHIT at work, but I respect myself too much I suppose)

Wishing you all the best. X

Yup, I am going to ask them to take me off the project, and if they don't agree, I will start looking for other options. I can't endure this kind of harassment for 6 more months!

I think I never had horrible bosses except normally the CEO I dont like, they are normally ass-holes, they never come to work on time, they have affairs with the secretaries, have to spoon feed them every information and they prefer ass kissing people which exactly how they manage to become CEO in the first place. They have zero leadership skill, always steal money from the company even claim money for their wife, kids.

Only in my last job I had to deal with the CEO because at times i have to handle his projects, though the one overlooking my job was another director (a hard working woman, we help each other a lot) . So I had a friend which is under the CEO, she is someone likes giving her two cents and not afraid to speak up, so she normally handle the CEO or other directors when it comes to speaking up even on my behalf, but she has a bit of a nervous energy, she gets anxiety when she has to do the work, she is a bit clumsy, messy and she do a lot mistakes, so I help her when it comes to the work because I can do it very fast and without mistake, and also double checking her work. That the deal I had with her.
