Was Kya Kehna(2000) ahead of its time?

I don't think Kya Kehna did very good business when it was released. Heck, even I chose to watch Stuart Little over it! You can't blame me, I was 14!

But when I watched it later, came to realise the concept of single mother and having a child out of wedlock was very much ahead of its time.

Do you think the movie would have been appreciated more if it released in contemporary times?

Don't blame yourself. Stuart Little was a better movie.

Kya Kehna was still a Super Hit at the box office, and it won't be appreciated more now because the concept is not fresh anymore.

They released the same movie 5 years later with better music and the parents ended up together. Salaam Namaste. That was a hit.

I don’t KK would’ve made any more money or any less money in any other era. It was pretty boring.

As far as I remember the film was a commercial success. It is definitely my favorite Preity Zinta movie along with Dil Hain Tumhara.

Was it ahead of its time? Well, not completely, as certain portions of the film are a little high on melodrama for today's standards. But I certainly think it was progressive in many aspects.

I particularly liked the character of Chandrachur's mother. After his character Ajay is heartbroken after finding out Priya is pregnant with someone else's child, he is dejected and doesnt feel like attending her brother's wedding reception. However, his mother convinces him that they should as it is the right thing to do. I liked Chandrachur's character as well as he showed a lot of strength in character by supporting Priya during this tumultuous time in her life. I also thought Priya's sister in law was a gem for standing up for her husband's family during crisis.

The film is also filled with a lot of cutesy moments. I just love how Priya's younger two brothers dote on her ❤️.. It is such a touching moment when Priya is banished from her house and we see the youngest brother watching old family videos. Everyone else in the family slowly joins him and the family have an emotional moment together.

I personally thought Saif played his role of the arrogant playboy so well. Preity and his chemistry was ⭐️

Preity herself was so good in the film. Such a great combination of beauty, cuteness, innocence and effervescence.

Finally the songs of the film are also super hummable and enjoyable. I still like watching this movie and listening to its songs on youtube.

If I had to nitpick I would say I didnt like the slightly anti-abortion message the movie seems to give off, as I am pro-choice on this matter. Even then, it could be seen as Priya's character wanting to keep the baby instead of the movie itself being anti abortion.

Society is more regressive now compared to when Kya Kehna was released . It was super hit movie with no big stars ( that time )

I quite like this film. It actually had a plot and story to tell, unlike many of the mindless comedies and nonsensical romances Bollywood used to churn out those days.

During the time when the movie release, the old people used to enjoy the beginning scenes and speech where she stood up for her friend with whistle and what not but they went complete silence and speechless when she got pregnant, more than the movie, their expression was worth watching ... Just imagine ... Anyway i dont agree with getting pregnant during study or school
