As far as I remember the film was a commercial success. It is definitely my favorite Preity Zinta movie along with Dil Hain Tumhara.
Was it ahead of its time? Well, not completely, as certain portions of the film are a little high on melodrama for today's standards. But I certainly think it was progressive in many aspects.
I particularly liked the character of Chandrachur's mother. After his character Ajay is heartbroken after finding out Priya is pregnant with someone else's child, he is dejected and doesnt feel like attending her brother's wedding reception. However, his mother convinces him that they should as it is the right thing to do. I liked Chandrachur's character as well as he showed a lot of strength in character by supporting Priya during this tumultuous time in her life. I also thought Priya's sister in law was a gem for standing up for her husband's family during crisis.
The film is also filled with a lot of cutesy moments. I just love how Priya's younger two brothers dote on her ❤️.. It is such a touching moment when Priya is banished from her house and we see the youngest brother watching old family videos. Everyone else in the family slowly joins him and the family have an emotional moment together.
I personally thought Saif played his role of the arrogant playboy so well. Preity and his chemistry was ⭐️
Preity herself was so good in the film. Such a great combination of beauty, cuteness, innocence and effervescence.
Finally the songs of the film are also super hummable and enjoyable. I still like watching this movie and listening to its songs on youtube.
If I had to nitpick I would say I didnt like the slightly anti-abortion message the movie seems to give off, as I am pro-choice on this matter. Even then, it could be seen as Priya's character wanting to keep the baby instead of the movie itself being anti abortion.
