This is Zoya Akhtar's least-talked about film though it was actually very good cinema. I loved the idea of the dog Pluto Mehra being the narrator. It was like the twisted world of humans was being viewed from the outside, and this was an intelligent plot device.
The conflicts in the movie are genuine. It's like an evocative examination of how wealth and dysfunctionality can be intertwined together in complex and warped ways. It pulls all the viewer's strings in the right ways. Also, it's about how all that glitters is not gold.
I loved the use of humour in the film. It felt authentic, somehow. The jokes were actually very witty, and made me think twice. Intelligent humour which was not contrived - what a welcome change! That's the strength of the film -- it felt so real and seeped in memorable moments, strung together by an engaging screenplay.
Ranveer, Anushka, Priyanka, Shefali Shah and Anil Kapoor are all very good, and performed with panache and heart. The love story between Ranveer and Anushka was full of crisp, golden moments. It melted into the screenplay with authentic ease.
I loved the movie because for me it represents love, hate, regret, animosity, betrayal and the emotions were heartfelt. It was definitely a movie worth watching, and it has repeat value.
