Only Kohli. Kids should have no surnames. This surname culture should end.

one more privileged kid

hope this nepo kid will not land in movies or cricketer taking away chance of a genuinely talented person

i think kohil's side family is very conservative his nature on field too is more delhite that brash aggressive in your face attitude

anushka is more sophisticated although shes also north since shes brought up in bangalore

bangalore has more european kind of upbringing accepting all faiths, colors, no much discrimination, no rich poor divide etc middle class upbringing that anushka has

that culture s seeping into virat nowadays hes more decent behaviour and talk better than before after marraige

i think kid will be brought up as per anushkas culture thats clear the bangalore type not delhi kind of upbringing

more sophisticated english speaking multi culture no superority brash complex kind (like most south cities are)

from virats words its obvious whose words and thoughts he is speaking

virat is saying those words its not his its bangalore bred anushkas thoughts and words

all that trophy etc should not be around kind of words can only be bangalore bred anushkas than a delhi born persons who display their privilege like anything

bangalore bred you do not know who is billionaire who is peon in a crowd or hotel or anywhere bec no one throws attitude around or accepts attitude thrown

Gasp! What happens if ABC then marries XYZ Padukone-Singh Bavnani-Bhatt-Kapoor?😆

By this logic, in some decades everyone will have same surname and they will live happily after. All Nepo = No Nepo

Changing - not changing a woman's surname is mere tokenism. Patriarchy is much more complex.Let them raise their daughter to be as competetive as a man in any field. Give same values, same opportunities, spend same amount of money on male/female child , equal inheritence , refuse to pay for both weddings or pay equal amount.

Teach them man/woman(marrying into money) is not a plan if no career pans out. Enpower them equally. Mere giving a mother's surname does nothing to cure patriarchy.

More importantly teach both male/female child to marry(if at all...marraige is not for everyone so as kids) someone with similar values. Otherwise all this is of no use.

You might do everything right to squash patriarchy as a parent and ur darling child might fall in love with a dominating loser and do everything against all the teachings. Esp happens with women ... they fight with parents on liberty and traditions and fall in silly love and submit to a man who makes a total joke of her freedom , suddenly she loses the voice she had with her parents ( happens and seen too often).

Also, lastname in High/elite life is all about what/who holds power. If the child wants to be cricketer a Tendulkar/Kholi/Dhoni works. In entertainement industry nothing works the magic like Kapoor/Bachchan. I am pretty sure distant relative of Poonawallah's and Ambanis women will prefer these names to get to places and get recognized even if they are married to another family (hardly squashing patriarchy ) .

In this case we dont know who holds the power...obviously money wise its Virat . If all Anushka wanted is to eliminate patriarchy in her life then she should have made choices that way ...even if it means to marry someone who earns much less than her...clearly she did not make that choice.

Untill the bloom goes off the rose ...we may never know who is the decision maker of the couple.

Again, there are women who took husbands last name and make every important decision with hubby as just a 'yes man'.

When Anushka’s parents got married it was very customary and common for women to take their husband’s last names. So her mother is a Sharma as well. Things have changed now and women don’t necessarily follow that patriarchal tradition. But that rule still applies to children. Almost always children are given the father’s last name though some do use the mother’s last name as the child’s middle name but even that’s not that common. So at most this child will be a ____ Sharma Kohli.

Also, a lot of female celebrities keep their maiden names for business purposes because that’s what they are known as but legally still take the husband’s name. I don’t know if this is the case with Anushka or not. But I do agree that taking the man’s name is archaic, patriarchal, and flat out misogynistic.

refused to bend ? we have no information that Virat insisted on it ? If anything that guy was more into her than she was at that time. Virat's dad is long gone ...Virat's family ( mom-sister) seems to have no say in anything. Everything seemed to have happened according to Anushka's wishes.

😆 Bhai, I was making fun of the original post. Patriarchy is one thing. Practicality is another.

Tbh, I think Scandinavians have the best idea. Name sons after father and daughters after mother.

So Eric, son of Olaf, will be Eric Olafsen.

Erica, daughter of Olga, will be Erica Olgadottir.
