One of the protagonists for whom I have no sympathy is Ayushmann's character Chirag Dubey in Bareilly Ki Barfi. Just because his heart was broken once and he wanted to avoid heartbreak the second time round at any cost, he played with people's lives and it seemed the movie was even trying to justify his actions.

I know most protagonists in BW movie are flawed but this guy was toxic and selfish both. In fact, incredibly selfish. He only cared for himself.

Do you agree?

yeah. I don't think anyone loved that movie because of him? Did they? At least for me it was all about RKR, Pankaj Tripathi and Seema B.

Spoiler Alert

Yes, he was selfish. That’s why Rajkumar Rao and Kriti made the plan to test him. Will he remain the same selfish guy.. who will break everyone’s heart just because his was broken or will he sacrifice his own happiness for them?In the end Ayushman decided not to tell bitti about him being the real author. He apologised to Rao for being an as*hole and even came to the engagement for their happiness.

In the first half he was a jerk who will do anything and hurt anyone for his selfish reason but in the second half he chose not to hurt the people anymore, even though he might lose his love again.

Wasn't his character's transformation the plot of the story?😕 He is brought down in the climax and admits (apparent) defeat to give up the girl to the one she (apparently) loves. He admits he was wrong. The movie actually shows it as wrong and nowhere tries to justify it. So why the question?

ETA. If this is a comparison to Kabir Singh... nuh-huh, not even close. Which part of his actions did Kabir repent? Where does the movie show him as wrong?

Making movies on grey characters or even villains is not wrong. Justifying them is. BkB didn't justify AK's character.

I think it was a journey. Chirag, who had got everything he wished for except his ex, desperately seeked the next girl who reminded him of his ex. He didn't see her as an individual, nor did he see anyone else's emotions.

But when Pritam stepped in and "claimed" his girl, he understood that there is more to his relationships then just being with Kriti's character.

But I think he was written in a way so that you hate him, so that his journey makes him worth RKR's friendship and Kriti's love, and that was done nicely.

But the movie encouraged bullying by covering it up as jokes.

Characters should be flawed, because humans are flawed.

Chirag was an asshole, but that is not the point of the movie.
