I do believe Naina loved Rohit a great deal, it's just that its a BW movie and towards the end they got carried away with showing too much melodrama and made it seem like Naina cried herself every night to sleep after Aman's death 😆 ( the movie version probably did though 🤔)
I personally felt the end portions of KHNH are VERY awkward.🤓.. the more I grow old the more apparent it becomes. Naina and Aman are crying their eyes out at Naina-Rohit's wedding as if it's someone funeral 🤪.. and during Aman's death scene, Naina is so lovestruck and heartbroken over a dying Aman, you can't help feel as if Rohit got the short end of the stick by marrying a girl who is very openly (!!!!) head over heels in love with someone else 😳. It's just super odd.
If the directors were a bit more realistic, it would have been way better to show Naina and Rohit taking their road to marriage a little slow (the makers almost made Aman the dying babuji who just HAS to see his daughter married away before he expires ). Then they could have shown Aman passing away and him and Naina reaching a touching emotional closure. Then Naina could have married Rohit, and in the end old Naina could have reminisced about her first love. Instead the movie ending is kind of a melodramatic mess!
Anyway, coming to Naina-Rohit. They made an adorable couple! Their fights, their banters, their flirty moments during the "chey din ladki in" period 😆. Rohit was Naina's closest friend and confidante, and even before Rohit starts wooing Naina you could tell she adores him, and at moments is possessive about him (her subtle jealousy over Geeta 😆) AND is also protective of him! (In a deleted scene she actually has a small quarrel with Aman about Rohit and says that Rohit is a very cool guy!). They were what having best friends as spouses would be like. ❤️
PS- I love Naina-Aman too. After all who can get over mid 2000s shahrukh khan 😆, so not blaming Naina too much lol.
