Its a really enjoyable movie for fans of the book. Tabu and Irfan are highlights. There are some beautiful scenes in there

I vaguely remember feeling like giving Kal Penn's character one tight slap. He was irresponsible and selfish. First of all to his parents because he didn't give them any means to contact him while he was vacationing with his gf and family. Second of all to his poor gf. Transferring his guilt about his father's death conveniently to her shoulders.

It starred Irfan and Tabu, without a doubt had to be a well acted movie!

Kal Penn contributed well too as the kid of the migrant parents and the way he strives balance between his roots and birth place!

Watched it many years back, and as far as I remember it's a well made movie and relatable for many immigrants!

Definitely worth a watch! - Actually I myself feel like watching it again! 😆

Yes. 100% recommended.

The only issue of the movie is what happens to all movies derived from books. Its impossible to show the various intricacies of self identity, self doubt and the experiences of the immigrant life when packed as a movie.

But this does not stop the Namesake movie to be heart-wrenching in its own way. Irrfan and Tabu alone are enough for you to dive into it. A lot of the movie is unspoken and expressed through the magic of the eyes.

The movie is definitely worth a watch. Good performances by Irfan and Tabu.

Personally not a fan of the whole ABCD - American born confused desi movies. But the book is nicely written and Lahiri words and insights into the characters is what made the book worthy. The book makes you care for gogol too. The film adaptation may not, that's the only drawback. Would recommend the movie if only for another person's interpretation of the same characters.
