Both films were about growing up and had great songs. But JTYJN gave a fresh new quirky approach to the same tired trope of friends suddenly discovering that they were in love all along. Ratna Pathak's conversations with Naseer's portrait was hilarious. So were the cousins from the country. All the characters were relatable and had an arc of their own. Even the exes weren't one note. The humor was used to tide over a lot of sad things. Ratna Pathak's loneliness without her husband, Imran's ex-gf's refusal to accept the reality of her dysfunctional family, Aditi's brother's feeling of abandonment when she turned more to her friends etc. It was also about growing up and realising that your parents aren't the people that you thought to be. They are both more and less. YJHD on the otherhand was a candy coated superficial,escape-from-reality-I-refuse-to-grow-up romance worth only a single watch.
