What do you prefer when you go to see a film?

How did this film become BO Gold! Is a statement most of us have uttered in frustration and exasperation at least once in our life.

Films like Kabir Singh, Houseful 4, Total Dhamaal etc. are not exactly for those who like quality in cinema, yet have done excellent business at the box-office. Whether a movie is good or not is mostly subjective. Someone will scream and shout that a movie like Bala is quality, while others would like to differ. It all depends on personal preference, and how much a movie earns probably won't change your preference. For example, the films I mentioned earned a lot, but were they "good"? According to me, no. According to others, maybe.

However in defence of the public, huge BO ticket sales does not necessarily mean one tremendous audience. A good chunk of those ticket sales are repeat viewers or as some would say 'repeat offenders.'

Kabir SIngh is the best example of this. It incited a certain demographic ( launde lapades) to watch the film again and again. But does that necessarily make it a work of quality? A good plot and exceptional acting may induce you to watch a movie many times in your life BUT several times in a week is unlikely UNLESS it is laced by other motives too.

Secondly, do you think marketing and PR play a big part?

So what does the average cinegoer want? Do you really think they want to leave their brains behind at home and just have a good time? Or do you believe people are attracted to a smart/ well-packaged/ entertaining films?

Discuss.

I like comedy movies like- golmaal series, dhamaal 1, all the best

Patriotic Movies like, chak de india, Swades, dangal

Feminist movies like- thappad, shakuntala devi

Action movies like- race1, dhoom1

I don't understand why movies like Kabir singh, housefull 2, dabang and race 3 does huge business. I think it's all about the hero appeal. If it's their favourite actor, people would go and watch any shot thrown.

Aamir khan says take the films opening and then see how many times that multiplies into the films lifetime

Then Thugs happened where I don’t think the opening multiplied even twice so he can keep his trap shut 😆

I watch what I like based in actors or songs or promos. If a film I don’t watch is getting lots of attention I get curious but only watch if I find the time

bold matlab??? They don't actually reveal the real numbers??😲

Red- IKR😆 I wonder how a perfectionist like him would choose a script like that. Is it true that he takes a lot of time to study the script before saying yes to the film?

Blue- same here👍🏼

He was taking a dig

Sometimes films get good hype and due phenomenally well in opening weekend and 1st week and then collections Die down. But films that due well in week 2/3 are real “well liked” films

Like I said it all went out the window since his films like Mangal Pandey and thugs suffered the same fate.

Not sure about script reading but I know he likes to control everything in film sets

I only have two demands from films just like I have with anything else in life. Either entertain me OR be thought provoking enough to move me. If a film can’t do either, it belongs in the trash.

How is Kabir Singh being clubbed along with the likes of Housefuls and Dhamaals.

Kabir Singh on technical front is much better than any of the hipster movies like Laila Majnu, Notebook and so on you guys keep overhyping in the forum. Brilliant acting, good direction, outstanding music, despite being nearly 3 hours an engaging and consistently paced screenplay and good cinematography, and I could go on and on. Yes you may not like the movie for its supposed misogyny, sexism, violence and glorification of a disturbing man, but to say it isn't a good movie? Sorry but any one who has taste for good cinema without having the righteous uptight moral compass, will tell you Kabir Singh is a good movie.

Entertainment only. If the film moves me in some way like I had a good laugh or cry, then it was a good experience.

Marketing can help you become more aware and interested in a film but primarily I decide to watch films based on the trailer and maybe songs. If a film is carrying a strong WOM, then I will also check it out. Nothing written in the media really affects my perception of the film or even the people involved (unless there's a major scandal).
