Oh thanks for this

Now i know why SRK got 8 filmfares same as dilip kumar

What a joke i think he deserve not more than one or two awards for best actor

No wonder hes equal to dilip kumar (hes hardly 25% of acting ability of dilip kumar or balraj sahani)

above that hold your breathe he got 10 awards in flimfare like best critic award, best power award, best producer awards, debut award etc

So hes got 18 awards in filmfare only

Out of that i think he deserves only 2 awards bazigaar and darr

I do not think he deserved even best debut award for deewana as i feel it should have gone to hero of "dil ka kya kasoor" movie that year

Even anjaam he do not deserve it was naseerudin shah in mohra who should have got it

In anjaam madhuri did a better job than srk all round performance

I didn't know that everyone was aware that at Filmfare they won before the awards. That's like the U.S. People Choice Awards. Nominated and non presenting stars don't show up there unless they're winning for something.

But, notably, in 2007, there was Hrithik Roshan, chosen best actor (male) for Krrish, so far, so good. He was also contracted to perform on stage. He sent word an hour before the event that he would come and perform as contracted, but wouldn’t accept the award.

Why? Because how could he give legitimacy “to a jury that did not recognise the phenomenal talent of his father”? Rakesh Roshan was the film’s director. Hrithik did finally relent, but boycotted at least the customary post-awards star party.

Er. There was no award for him to pick up as Krissh. Hrithik was nominated for Krrish but he won for Dhoom 2.

The best film was shared between Vidya Balan-starrer Dirty Picture and multi-starrer Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD). So far, so good. But again, in its wisdom, the jury chose Milan Luthria (Dirty Picture) for best director, and not Zoya Akhtar (ZNMD).

On the day of the awards, Priyanka called in panic as usual. The cast and crew of ZNMD, she said, were boycotting. Now, how do you run an awards evening if nobody appears on the stage to accept ‘best film’. We again started diplomacy. But it wasn’t working. Not only was nobody from the film turning up, they had also persuaded all their friends.

At one point that evening, I got desperate enough to even call Javed Akhtar to plead with him. I did get a call back from Farhan. He turned up, sullen and in a black tee. He said while he might have come there out of respect (not for the jury), he wouldn’t accept the award on the stage. He left in a few minutes.

Abhy Deol recently said he didn't show up because he was nominated in Supporting instead of Lead. Nothing about Zoya not getting an award. He also bitched that Farhan said he didn't mind his Supporting Nom and that Farhan of course showed up at the awards. Heh. Doesn't sound like a group boycott effort.

EDIT: WRONG. Responses were about Filmfare but this article was about Screen Awards

Thanks. I just went back and looked at the main article. I thought this was Filmfare but it's the Screen Awards. Now the knowing before they win an award makes more sense. It is like People's Choice.

I think most were already aware that there is immense insecurity and ego in the film industry and this includes both Bollywood and South.

This also shows that all the bigwigs whether the Khans or Kapoor's or Bachchan or all big names are the same.

Sushant's death brought everything out to the forefront.

The creativity and art has been replaced by dirty politics, abuse of power , beauty fashion business booming but taking a toll on surgeries and just a very negative place.

That makes it look worse. No actor awards for omkara other than best actress for kkk and critics award for sanjay for munnabhai 2. So it's not as if star screen awards were any better but I guess the point that shekhar gupta wanted to put across was the politics and demands that go on behind the screen.

Good read. I'm glad people are having more courage to be vocal about their experiences in the industry.

Why is this a story?

Film producers, directors and actors always lobby for an award. The person who performs on stage generally gets one.

If you skip award ceremony, the award will skip you.

Its all about advertisement revenues specially in filmfare, zee cine awards and IIFA.

Most of the old IF members know about it.

And then, in 2012, when Katrina Kaif was to perform, paid fully in advance, she threw a tantrum minutes before her performance as she wasn’t being given any award. I was taken to her vanity van to plead with her.

Katrina was all dressed and painted up to perform. And then, the outburst. Why do they always call me but give me no awards? I said that was never the deal, you have a contract to perform. But by now, tears were streaming down her face, taking much of the make-up in their wake. Again, we invented a popular choice award.

Is this when Katrina won a best actress award for Tees Maar Khan? 😆
