Blind Item: Guess Who?

A well-known production house is losing the little goodwill it had in the industry for its brutal pay cuts. Those who work there say the slashes have been between 50 and 70 per cent. And waiting around for the remainder of the salary is also a humiliating effort. It seems the lady of the house signs the cheques but only on Fridays and, it seems, she is unwell each Friday. Tch.

Is this new? From today? Which site or publication is still doing blinds?

This one isn't juicy/personal in nature and is talking about Ekta defaulting on her staff's payments deliberately.

I don't mind blinds like this, because this is injustice and it exposes people like her. Such blinds can never be printed with the name, because then these biggies would use all their might to sue the paper, so the editor will never allow it and it would end up never getting published. So I would rather take a blind than nothing at all.

The kind of blinds that I would like to avoid are their personal matters that affect no one else. "Who is sleeping with who?" "Who got piss drunk?" "Who is fighting with his friend?" "Who is getting divorced?" etc.

Sorry but no. If there is injustice, get your sources in order and post a real news article. Have enough proof ready in your arsenal and go for it. If Indian media is so pitiful that they can't even write about salary issues in production companies in Bollywood, it means they are useless and never write anything important against politicians and the government either. They are not holding anyone responsible and doing their jobs so what is their purpose? Why are they no real investigative journalists in India?

They're just getting quick hits for their websites with half-baked info or full on lying.

I beg to differ. Not all whistleblowers want to be named. So those who don't want to be named shouldn't be forced to. But does that mean a story shouldn't be done? Nope, it has to be done and they should be held accountable.

Err, whistleblowers never need to be named. As long as your source is concrete, you can publish real articles. NY Times journalists have even gone to jail because they refused to give up sources for the stories they were publishing when the government was forcing them to give them information.

Desi media is plain garbage. They don't want to work hard, they don't want to piss anyone off, they have no courage of conviction, and they don't care about the truth either.

Blinds are a quick way to spread dirt based on gossip and get some hits for their website so they can sell advertising.

The whistleblower laws in India is not as effective as they are in the US. You may want to read up on that.

I agree with you on the poor standards of journalism in India, but that doesn't mean there are no good journalists. There are quite a few, but they don't get the backing from the media organizations that employ them. No matter how hard you work on a story, if the editor doesn't green light the story, it will not get published. The editors will obviously take the risk into account while publishing risque stories, and blinds like this would never be listed as articles with the names.
