My college roommate`started developing schizophrenia the first year we lived together. I had known her before that and that's why we agreed to live together. But after a few months, she started doing really strange things like taping up all her desk drawers because she thought people were opening them when she wasn't around. She claimed people were following her. Her temperament was so off and she would complain if you sat next to her. Her personality became volatile to the point that it started becoming frightening. I couldn't ask for a change of dorm until the next year and it was a nightmare year.. and she used to be my best friend before it.

At some point, her sister told me they were taking her to the doctor but I'm not sure what more happened with it. We lost touch after I moved out because it was mentally exhausting to be around her. You can't do anything as an outsider and they don't listen either. Average people are not experts at dealing with mental illness either. You feel a huge relief when you're able to get away from them. It might be selfish but it's also self-preservation. Nobody sticks around other than family and sometimes not even them.

I have no idea how accurate this article is but if they're telling the truth then it's believable that SSR thought that. My roommate also used to come up with crazy theories about how people were following her and chasing her around campus and hiding behind trees to attack her. There are always weird cult-ish religious groups on campus and she started getting involved with those people. Maybe she thought religion would give her safety. Who knows.

Schizophrenia is a horrible, horrible, disease. Honestly, if people in the industry had some inkling about this but it *didn't* come out in blinds, they were not the ones spreading it. The blinds that were spread were relatively minor compared to what he was actually going through.
