First of all, they should stop making it seem that mental illness is some craziness/ madness that you’ve no control over and that any person staying with the patient will lose sanity too. Being schizophrenic isn’t as cruel. Yes, it will be very demanding to the person staying with the patient to overcome this. But it has to be worked upon together and we can eventually beat it and bring it to a control. The patient needs people who truely loves him/her to stay with.
Also, even in depression, some voices can be heard if the patient lacks sleep or even if he is under medication. Some drugs do give you suicidal thoughts and weird feelings. It has to be worked together with the doctor to find and adjust the dosage. I’ve lived with someone battling depression once so I know what I’m speaking about. Now with proper care, the person is much better and has stopped medication since 5 years. But we constantly observe him for the slightest signs or symptoms.
Also, this statement of Mahesh Bhatt is scary and thats why people in India are afraid of speaking out about the mental illnesses. If taken proper care, it can be cured.
