What is holding Ileana back?

She's easily the most talented of the lot which debuted after 2010. She's extremely beautiful and talented. I saw Raid, and believe me, she was the best part about the movie. An effortless performer with grace, screen presence, and charm. What a great, great actress. Someone who can own the movie despite being there only as a supporting role. She literally is a powerhouse performer.

I don't get it. Despite having the looks, screen presence, acting talent, she is nowhere in the big league. She is the quintessential beauty with talent. I can go on and on about her.

It's sad to see her doing roles like Pagaalpanti when she could have been doing the roles Taapsee/Alia does. She's wayyyyyyyyyyy more talented than them. She should be numero uno, there's no-one (I repeat no-one) who's more talented among her contemporaries, except Parineeti. And she checks all the criteria to be a top actress, more than Parineeti does( not being shallow here, just considering her as fitting the traditional actress looks more).

Illeana has a flair for comedy which hasn't been exploited enough. Her argument with Ratna Pathak at the mall in Mubarakan is comedy gold. Also in Phata Poster in Nikla hero where she urges her lazy boyfriend Shahid to beat up the goons and be a hero was hilarious. You can't say that she hasn't had enough chances. She had a meaty part in Badshaaho where she was supposed to be playing all characters against each other. But sadly her presence lacked impact and was lackluster to say the least. Also why did she choose to do David Dhawan's Main tera hero after Barfi? Varun walked away with all the best lines while she was reduced to another dumb beauty -reduced to the same level as Nargis Fakri.

I agree with you somewhat. But what I feel is, she hasn't got enough chances to showcase her true talent. The movies you mentioned are known more for the male lead than the female, or are movies which are purely commercial without the right ingredients to showcase one's true potential.

Truth is, if you see Raid or Rustom, you will get a glimpse of her true potential. She is a brilliant actress. And I don't use the epithet brilliant loosely here, I really feel she dives into the character's psyche and adds these nuances, little flourishes which are the sign of a true artist.

I am comparing her career to say, Taapsee's. Taapsee has got meaty parts with A-list directors, but she hardly exhibits the kind of class Ileana does in her performances.

I would pit Ileana with the likes of Parineeti and Bhoomi. She is wayyyyyyy up there when it comes to talent and untapped potential.
