it continued for many years. those days cable tv were on a boom and the very first or second day movies were released via cable tv/operators., which means people watched the movies on small screen first or second day itself.

piracy is out of question. now my query was how come the producers allowed this and how did they recover money and what was the share pattern etc.

I guess, they are just going for the one-time payment they are getting for the film during the deal.

I don't think they will get anything more even if the film gets a lot of views or something. Unless something like that is mentioned in the agreement, which doesn't seem very likely.

I am guessing with series, each successive season must be getting sold at a higher price to the OTT platform, based on the viewership the last season garnered. But with films they can't do anything.

Her biggest flop still earned more money than Salman's biggest flop so, I don't know who the joke is on.

No, it won’t. Prime bought Gulabo Sitabo for 65 cr plus the satellite rights were sold for another 10 cr. The movie’s cost of production was barely 30 cr, so producers still made a hefty 45 cr profit.

Similarly Shakuntala Devi was bought for 25-35 cr including both online streaming and TV satellite rights, whereas production cost was less than 10 cr. So sizeable profit again.

From where are you quoting such numbers with so much confidence? Aren't such numbers kept confidential? How do you know all this? What's the source? I believe it's all fake numbers. Nobody knows about the real deals I guess.
