Disgaree there.

MI is entertaining series and Tom is good at it. Tom gives his heart and soul to the movies he does and nails the smart action hero roles unlike Akshay who jumps from one set to another not even bothering to change his costume. 😂

Tom will be mortified if he ever hears Akki’s garbage. One has to watch the making. He does his own stunts for the most part and prepares for it months in advance.

I’m not talking about action movies. All Hollywood action movies are 100 times better than all Bollywood actions movies. They just have better special effects, better stunt coordinators, and better camera work. It just looks better.

Akshay was comparing character driven movies, where its actors are getting into the skin of their characters, with Mission Impossible.

I just responded to lulzboy that Akshay’s comparisons wasn't action to action but rather character driven to action movies.

As for Tom Cruise, not a fan. Haven’t been in a while. He should get credit for doing his own stunts but beyond that just like all other action movies it’s all about special effects and an amazing behind the scenes crew. Also to be fair I haven’t even been paying close attention to the last few MIs since I didn’t like the first two and don’t care for Cruise.

Likes and dislikes are subjective so not going there. But my response was more to do with Akki’s choosing to name MI as an example to make his stupid point.

Tom takes as much time as any actor doing method acting in character driven roles. He prepares for his action sequences months in advance and they rehearse it countless times. So the actual days of shooting is less but if rehearsals are counted then it does account to being more and then HW takes a long time to edit and of course special effects.

Here is an example of how Tom works. So Akshay should stop giving HW movie as an example. They all have passion to work better and do better.

I don't know why Indians usually look down upon method actors....HW and the world go gaga over the method actors most are deemed as acting gods like Daniel Day Lewis, Gary Oldman. In HW Christian Bale is hailed as the best actor of his generation over the likes of Leo, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon. Robert Deniro, Al Pachino are also known to have gone method in most of their best performances. Jaoqin Pheonix is another method actor even Leo went method for his role in Revanant which earned him the Oscar. Heath Ledger's overdose is linked to his method acting for Joker as he has gone on record during a an interview that he had started taking sleeping pills to fall asleep while he was shooting for Joker because of the mental strain he was under.

There is a documentary on Netflix how method Jim Carey went for one of his roles.

I couldn’t agree more.

People take Meryl Streep and DDL’s names as favs and then mock the method. It’s ironic.

I personally don't think we have to look to the west to learn how to act. I usually believe an actor has to learn different methods for approaching different characters and different kinds of stories. All characters don't need method acting. But I don't look down upon method acting as such either. My only problem is when they go extreme with their methods, almost crazy. Like Ranveer inflicted pain upon himself in Lootera, I m glad he learnt his lesson and doesn't want to do that again. Some actors starve themselves to look thinner which again is madness to me but I can still get it that they want to achieve a physique required for the character, though I still can't appreciate harming ones health for this. And the latest that I heard where Nana Patekar didn't want to wear a fire suit while filming a risky fire scene all cause his "acting kharab ho jayegi". I think people like him should quit acting if they literally have to burn themselves to shoot a scene. Its the kind of madness that I can't seem to appreciate. Otherwise I find Amir's approach towards his work and craft very nice ( that is I haven't heard any mad stories from his side yet 😆) I think some people take this method acting way too deeply then it should be. I mean you just stated that maybe Heath Ledger's overdose can be related to his method acting which is what I m trying to point. If method acting means killing themselves maybe actors can live without method acting then. Its an unhealthy practice and they should draw a line for themselves.

Akshay is right in a way. Acting is fake at the end of the day no matter how much importance you give it. You are creating a fake world and it's okay to use other fake things to get your point across. Sorry but you don't need to sit at home for 6 months getting fat for a role. You can use a fat suit and make-up. You don't need to wait for a year to grow your hair when wigs and extensions are available. If you need to really take drugs to play a drug-addicted character, maybe you're just not that great an actor.

It's good to prepare and make things look authentic but there should be a limit to everything. If you're making a story about climbing Mt. Everest, you don't need to learn mountain climbing for two years. You can use a stunt double, it's fine!

As for art, BW is not art. Most commercial movies the mainstream actors do are just packages made to earn money. They just use the "method acting" schtick for PR to prove how serious and talented they are. Really, how funny is it that Aamir probably sat at home for 6 months growing a beard for Lal Singh Chadha and will use it for PR when he promotes...except that the scenes are ultimately just a copy of Forest Gump. Ranveer's performance he apparently locked himself in a room for very obviously inspired by Khal Drogo. So what does it matter?
