Akshay Kumar:I took Canadian citizenship because I had 14 flops

Akshay opened up about the circumstances behind him getting a Canadian passport at the HT Leadership Summit.

"There was a time when 14 films of mine flopped and I thought that I might have to take up something else to support myself. One of my closest friend stays in Canada and he asked me to come there. He said we will work together on something. He is also Indian but stays there. Then I started my process, got my passport and other stuff because I thought my career has ended. I won't get work here anymore. It was just that my 15th film worked and after that I never looked back. I kept going on and on. But I never thought of getting my passport replaced," said Akshay.

Following the controversy, he decided to apply for an Indian passport. "I have now applied for it because I feel sad that people have stuck to this point that I have to show my passport to prove that I'm an Indian. It hurts me. So I don't want to give anyone an opportunity and so I have applied for it," he said.

"My wife (Twinkle Khanna) is Indian and my son (Aarav) is Indian. Everyone in my family is Indian. I pay all my taxes here. My life is here but some people want to say something, so it's ok," he added.

I don’t even wish him on the people of Canada 🤣

But he always claimed to have gotten “Honorary Citizenship”.

He's probably getting tirted of criticism of his citizenship and is trying to 'fix' this by applying to have an Indian one - IF this is really true.

* In any case, if he's not allowed to get Dual, he'll claim he 'TRIED' but couldn't get it cause people are against him- and some fans will also believe that.😆

Alia has a British Passport and no one cares. It became problematic with Akshay for two reasons. Main one being be tried really hard to hide it and even lied about being an honorary citizen of Canada and what not. It wasn’t until people noticed him not voting in the general election that he couldn’t hide it anymore and came clean. Specially since he had done that endorsement video for Modi too. Second reason is all the patriotic themed movies he sells and makes loads of money off of by playing on people’s sense of love and loyalty for country and he’s not even a citizen of the said country. It makes him look like a hypocrite and manipulative and kind of conniving even. So it all blew up in his face.

Indian entertainment journalists suck and never have the balls to get tough with a celebrity. Akshay will never be confronted with any of the above hypocrisy and lying he’s been getting away with.

okay how did he get Canadian citizenship? don't you have to get a permanent visa and then live there for a few years to be eligible to apply?

They are so pathetic. Even when Akshay was lying about being an honorary citizen, they would just simper and smile. What kind of journalists are they that they don't know Canada only has 5 or 6 honorary citizens in their entire history and they are publicly listed?

After that he lied again that he has dual citizenship but that's not possible because India doesn't allow it. But these journalists would just sit there and smile as he lied to their face.

Then he lied again saying he is a Canadian citizen but he has not visited Canada in 7 years. People found pictures of him in Canada during that time.

Now comes a new story that he applied for Canadian citizenship after 14 flops. Are they going to check that he actually got an Indian passport?
