OT: Rakhi

Sorry for the OT but I don't know where else to post this or where else to ask and get some opinions.

What is your opinion on Rakhi? Do you celebrate it? If you choose not to, why?

Personally - I don't have any brothers, only sisters. I used to tie Rakhi on my boy cousins but stopped when I was old enough to understand that I am asking for "raksha" (protection) and it got me thinking I don't need protection from them. Also I was a little upset because there is nothing to celebrate sisterhood. My sisters have protected me far better than anyone else I know.

Please close/delete the topic if not appropriate. Just genuinely want to know what other think of Raksha Bandhan.

Tie Rakhi to your sisters then. In my family I tie Rakhi to my brothers and they tie it to me.. same with my parents. Its a festival to celebrate sibling bond and a promise by the siblings to have each others back always. Gender does not matter.

I love tying rakhis to my brother, we don’t consider “protection” as the driver behind it but rather sibling love. He used to tie a rakhi to me as well when I was younger but I stopped that since I don’t like to wear it on my wrist anymore and remove it within a couple of hours, unlike him who wears it for weeks and weeks.

Well problem solved ... tie rakhi to your sisters! ... 😆 .. I take the day as the day of sibling bonding ... If you got no brother celebrate it with your sisters .. there are no hard and fast rules here .. You celebrate the day however you like it! .. 🤗

Off topic comment of my own: I thought this was going to be about Rakhi Sawant but then remember you put "OT" 😆 My bad!

Jisko jee chahe baandh do. When you don't agree with the reason behind any celebration, but it's a chance to celebrate then celebrate it the way you want it. Behan ko hi rakhi bandh ke celebrate karo.

See it in a different way as people celebrating brother and sister relationship, without the protection part, and you will not have any issue. And I think it is a duty of every family member to protect the other. So if you see it that way, Rakhi will not feel patriarchal and masculine festival.

I even tie a rakhi to my dog since he is my little bro too. 😁

Hahah ok I don't really feel the need to tie anything on anyone. I must have sounded very FOMO 😆

But true I should just think of it as a day to celebrate sibling bond👍🏼😳

You maybe a strong girl who does not need protection from a brother but you do deserve all the love n happiness on such days like everyone else...so
