Illayaraja is a maestro and see even today at the age of 70+ he is still around making marvelous music and the ones who stole his work and credit slipped into obscurity.
Are you from South by any chance?
No one denies that Illayaraja is a genius.
And which songs are u talking about? Saathiya tune kya kiya, Priyatama, Dhak Dhak...any others? Because the same guys composed ae mere humsafar, gave Govinda his biggest hits and were the names behind most of today's A Lister's debut/initial films. They were the most versatile in the 90s.
No one had any hopes of Rakshak's soundtrack doing well since it was a Suneil Shetty film...but the minute sheher ki ladki, sundara sundara hit the radio and TV the soundtrack was a success.
AM might have copied a few, but they have more originals to their success.
Anu Mallik might have copied many songs too, but he did give us Baazigar, Sundese aate hai, Main hoon na and they were and are huge hits
And if we are talking about copying, Nadeem Shravan have ripped off several Pakistani songs, including tumhe apna banane ki kasam...surprisingly no one discusses them.
Also its unfair to compare south films and bollywood's music trend...look at how T Series etc behave, how the producers and actors take credit for every song released these days. KJo jaise log music shows judge kar rahe hai and apne nepotism ke products ko har cheez kara rahe hai...ab actors bji autotune lagake gaate hai.
South films still believe in good music and respect music directors, and thats why Illayaraja is working till today. Baahubali is a recent example of how a good film should be made...and i enjoyed the soundtrack. Hell even in Marathi films music directors, lyricists ans singers get more respect.
PS: I spoke to so many people to know what went wrong by the end of the 90s and it had nothing to do with plagiarism btw.
I like the original song but the version in this movie sucked because of Mahima and Sunny Deol 🤢.
I used to like this song but then they started this in Kasauti Zindagi Ki and I ended up hating it 🤢.
Another song ruined for me by Ekta's serials 🤢.
This song was the rage back then. I so hate this song even now. 😆

Haha I remember this 😂. This was played in my class party at school and we danced to it . I liked it a lot back then but got tired of it pretty fast.
