Not necessary. Love is not only romantic, its platonic too. The love and support of your parents and family is important if you want to achieve a goal in your life. No one can ever get success just on the own. There has to be someone to have your back, take care of you, motivate you when you are working day and night to achieve something.

Without love, there is not really a purpose in your life. No one is there to share your happiness or sadness. No one to motivate you to do anything. You're just all alone. So there is no reason for a person to thrive for success.

About Big B's philosophy, I agree with discipline, but tradition and honour? I don't think so. World is dirty. So being honourable will not always work out. It can even be a roadblock on your way to success. Like look at Bollywood. Casting couch is not honourable. But actresses do it to get roles and get ahead in career. Even in corporate sector, employees sleep with their bosses to get favours and promotions.

Also look at criminals. They are not doing anything honourable. They are harming the society. But they are earning money in their field. Some are even filthy rich. For them, they have achieved their success.

Following your tradition has more to do with your identity rather than success. Though some traditions you always need to follow if you want to live in a society. But its not always necessary. You can be successful in your career but still don't care about your culture or religion. Today's generation is just like that only.

👍Just came here to say this.

Also, want to add that most people chase success with the ultimate goal of pursuing happiness. Yes, discipline is a must for success but that doesn't mean other things like love and relationships have no value. Infact, according to a Harvard study, healthy relationships and love is one of the most important things that makes us happy and healthy. The importance of love cannot be dissed. This is why, for maximised happiness a fine balance of both is ideal.

Hmm, then maybe, just maybe, PAP wins here :) ..but there are people who are on top of the world just as long as their lover is with them... or the ones who leave their success, riches, home, leave everything behind when they part from their lover?

who can say.. who can really say.. you never know until you're consumed by love of the romantic sort smiley17

Also.. what if I say that I strive to be disciplined and work hard only for the sake of the one I romantically love? Doesn't that mean both are required, or neither is better or lower than the other? :p
