Why was Aamir Khan's Baazi a Flop?

Baazi was an Aamir Khan movie released in 1995. It was an action thriller, a very entertaining film and it's still watchable. Though later I got to know that the movie has copied some scenes and plot points from alot of Hollywood films, but it was still entertaining nonetheless. And that's why I wonder why this film was a box office FLOP.

I mean the movie had everything required for a typical 90s blockbuster. It had action, a tough hero, a hot heroine, good songs, and an exciting plot. Even technically the movie was well made. script was gripping and direction was also good. Still the movie ended up being a box office failure in a decade when action movies were the IT thing.

Was it only because Aamir was doing action for the first time in his career, and audience didn't accept it as he was mostly seen as a romantic hero during that time? Aamir hasn't seen much success as an action star even now apart from Ghajini and Dhoom 3.

Although I think Aamir was very much believable doing action in the movie, despite not having a great physique, as the action scenes were not OTT. Which is another great thing about the film. It made the hero look tough without making him superhuman, who can beat everyone without losing a sweat.

I wonder if the movie had been a success if it was Sunny, Akshay or Ajay in place of him, as their crap action films also worked in 90s.

Bcoz Action did not and does not suit him. Ghajini was a fluke hit. He looked awful even in Dhoom 3

I thought it is a hit? It is so well executed. Songs are hit too. May be average. Why would Aamir repeat action with Sarfarosh and Ghulam if it flopped?

It wasn't a flop. Not a hit either, a middling success. Also, it was in in the same range commercially as crap action movies of the other 'action' heroes. Basically, crap action movies even with action heroes don't work. Also, his action movies were not OTT and more narrative based appealing to urban section, so there is that factor as well.

Baazi was also a delayed released, like many other films at that time starring Aamir Khan. They did not look fresh at the time of arrival. His career planning, post-QSQT, was a mess even though there was a regular success. He had reset his career around this point already after the failure of a number of films like this and some getting shelved.

BOI has given it a Flop verdict. They are biased, but we don't have any other authentic source to know verdict of old movies. I definitely don't agree that Baazi is a crap, it may not be a classic and a copied from Hollywood movies, but the movie was still very entertaining, especially the climax in the building, and Paresh Rawal made a great villain. The movie gets repeat runs on television so there is an audience who likes to watch it.

Also for some weird reason this movie has an adult certificate although there is no such thing in the film.
