Dear Jaya Ji, You Are As Rude As The Paparazzi & The Fans You Detest!

For the layman, imagining a life that demands you to be exposed to the public around the clock, be hounded by the press, and blinded by camera flashes on the daily is something that is instantly likely to cause distress. However, when you become a public figure, a large and powerful one at that, it’s only obvious that the above-mentioned is part of the job description. Is it annoying and taxing to have journalists hovering around you all the time? Sure, it must be. But let’s be real here, “stars” sign up for it. If you’ve been working so tirelessly for years on end in the entertainment industry, only to ultimately shun fame and the interest that you, only naturally, prompt in the public, is it wrong for us to find no sense in that, despite trying?
Acclaimed actor-turned-parliamentarian, Jaya Bachchan, has been nothing but classy and graceful throughout her stint in Indian cinema, which has lasted for an applause-worthy number of decades. At 71, Jaya Ji is still sparingly in the business, and the only way fans and followers mostly get a glimpse of her is via the candid images that do the rounds on the internet, courtesy the paparazzi. For some reason, suddenly, Jaya seems to be supremely unnerved by all the attention she garners whenever she steps out and has no qualms about voicing it in the rudest (to say the least) fashion. While being bothered by the paparazzi is still understandable to a certain degree, given that her seniority could lead her to a lower threshold of tolerance, what we can’t seem to fathom is why she must adopt the vilest approach to tell them to stop. From all the viral videos of her going berserk, and lashing out at the press and fans for not adhering to her rules of getting clicked, one can only conclude that Jaya Ji is doing exactly what she feels the media is doing – being rude!
In this clip, Jaya Ji is seen exiting Hiroo Johar’s birthday party in Mumbai and being greeted by the paparazzi. While she doesn’t say anything to the photographers, she decides to call out an individual who was clicking a picture of her from his cell phone. She calls out to him, asking him to come closer, after which she goes: “Mobile se kyun le rahe ho? Tameez seekho!” After this, when the man apologised, she went on to say: “Sorry?! Angrezi mein bas itna hi seekha hai?”, mocking him for knowing only that much English.
Quite recently, another fan managed to rub Jaya the wrong way during a Ganpati darshan event. On her way out, when she caught this individual trying to click a picture of her, she angrily snapped, "Don't do that, stupid!" If that doesn’t do it, reports suggest that Mrs. Bachchan didn’t even spare the priests at Esha Deol's godh-bharai ceremony, who made the fatal mistake of trying to get quick pictures with the star. "Aap puja mein dhyan dijiye," she curtly told them.
Being as intolerant as she can be, Jaya Ji once scolded a bunch of youngsters some time ago. "Put your mobile down!" she yelled! Objecting to the flashes that were going off. "These are basic manners which we Indians have to learn. Just because you have a camera and a mobile, you get the freedom to take anyone's picture anytime, without asking that person! These are basic educations that all colleges and schools and parents at home should teach their children (sic)," she savagely added!
Last but not the least, we must mention the time Jaya Ji took massive offense when the paparazzi called out to her bahu as ‘Aishwarya’, which is, indeed, her first name, and reprimanded them with disgust. “Aishwarya kya hota hai? Is she your school friend?”, implying that they should call her by her full name, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Moral of the story? Well, never try to take out your phone around a tough cookie, unless you’re in the mood for some major schooling on manners and a volley of insults on your language and education!
