Top Opening Days 2019 - Kesari Is Number One

Kesari recorded the highest opening day of 2019 on Holi as it collected around 21 crore nett. The film was boosted by Holi in some places but adversely affected in others. In Gujarat / Saurashtra the collections were the second best after Sanju if we count all the films released in 2018 and 2019 but then a circuit like Bihar where Akshay Kumar is strong could not even collect as much as Luka Chuppi as it was practically shut all day.

Overall though Kesari has got a boost on Holi and like Gully Boy the real value collections will be less than the first day numbers. In terms of real value the top opening days are probably Kesari followed by Total Dhamaal followed by Gully Boy.

There is still to be a huge bumper opener this year and its probably Hollywood that is certain to give the bumper opening with The Avengers coming next month. The top opening days of the year till date are as follows.

1. Kesari - 21,00,00,000 apprx (Holi)

2. Gully Boy - 19,26,00,000 (Valentines Day)

3. Total Dhamaal - 15,91,00,000

4. Uri - The Surgical Strike - 8,49,00,000

5. Luka Chuppi - 7,76,00,000

6. Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi - 7,66,00,000

7. Badla - 5,00,00,000

8. The Accidental Prime Minister - 3,57,00,000

9. Thackeray - 2,99,00,000

10. Ek Ladki ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga - 2,86,00,000

Kesari had a good second day at the box office as it collected around 17 crore nett which is a 20% apprx drop from the first day. The drop has mainly come in Mumbai as that had an excellent first day of 7 crore nett due to huge collections in Gujarat / Saurashtra. The collections in Gujarat will have halved. It was a working day which meant the metros also showed a drop in collections.

The rest of the country has collected similar to the first day with some places like UP, Bihar and CP Berar making gains while others are down a bit. Mysore surprisingly has also showed a jump on Friday. the two day total for the film is around 38 crore nett and it will probably more than double that over the next two days for a strong extended weekend.

The 17 crore nett apprx of day two was also probably the fair value collection of the first day though some regions are still not screening the film especially in Bihar and Odisha. These two circuits will have more places open tomorrow and be completely back to normal on Sunday.
