Ranbir absolutely deserved the best actor award. And Rani deserved the best actress award. But almost always the most deserving hardly ever wins. So def not surprised.

Both Ranveer and Ranbir shone this year with their performances for their respective roles ... I would tho take Ranbir's performance over Ranveer .. Sanju role was more difficult ... he had to get the mannerism of a living person correct while Ranveer had the space to wiggle since no one knows how Khilji actually was ... so he can create a graph of his own ... with that reasoning alone RK over Ranveer this year! 👍🏼

I personally believe it is much easier to manipulate a living human, where you have so muchh reference to work with, in comparison.

But of course we are all entitled to our opinions and choices.

TBH I didn't mind Ranveer as Khilji. I thought he was the most interesting character, well, one of the most, in the film. However, I think someone else deserved that award. I wouldn't say Ranbir because I always find him meh these days.

Ranveer in Padmavat was not a clownish or terribly OTT performance as some might try to make it, especially that over rated piece of sheet called Raja Sen.
His performance was what you call, OTT done right, it was key he was all over the place and grab your attention, had he not been the movie would have not have lasted so many days in cinema as its whole USP was Ranveer and his performance(along with Jim and his chemistry, as Shahid and Deepika were under utilized by SLB).
But was he the best performer of the year??

If you ask me. No.
And if you want to compare with Sanju and Ranveer?? No for me..

I'm not a fan of either Ranveer or Ranbir so I'm fairly neutral between them.
Ranveer was over the top and annoying in many parts but I rarely ever like the acting in Bhansali movies. I hated even Amitabh in Black. He creates too much melodrama for my taste and scenes look almost comical sometimes. It's supposed to be high drama but you end up wanting to laugh in some sequences.

I think Ranbir is boring in most movies but was very good in Sanju. I have quibbles there too. He was fantastic in the older version of Sanju but maybe it was because of the make-up. He really looked on point. That scene when he played Munnabhai was amazing. However, the younger portions were not that great because it really didn't seem like Sanjay Dutt.

I haven't seen a lot of movies this year so I don't know if there were better performances.

Happy with Alia's award but I hate that Indian awards always overlook smaller movies or flop movies. Anushka deserved credit for Pari. She was brilliant. Better than anyone else this year by far.

Neither Ranveer nor Ranbir deserve the award this year. I think this year all awards should go to Ayushman...the most deserving of them all.
Ranbir, Ranveer jaaye tel lene.
