Sanjay Dutt was hailed as a hero who was wronged by the public and media alike, after the release of Rajkumar Hirani's biographical film Sanju. A lot of people wondered how Sanjay Dutt always ended up being in the wrong spot and invited all that trouble for himself. Some even said that the movie was made to whitewash the image of Sanjay Dutt.

Rajkumar Hirani Confesses He Made Changes In Sanju's Script To Create Empathy For Sanjay Dutt

However, Rajkumar Hirani, who is close friends with Sanjay Dutt and has worked with him in films like Munna Bhai series, was adamant that no attempt was made to whitewash his image.

However, Rajkumar Hirani recently said that he shot additional portions of Sanju in order to create empathy for the actor because people hated him in the test screening.

"During the shoot I felt 'What am I doing, I'm going wrong.' In fact, when the first edit was ready and we screened for people, they hated him. They said we don't like this man, we don't want to watch him.

He also said he created empathy towards Sanjay Dutt in the movie.

"Because I wanted to do a true story, I didn't create any empathy towards him. I said let's not create empathy and show (him) as he is. But later I understood that he is our hero, we need some empathy for him.

Furthermore, Rajkumar Hirani described how he did that!

"The scene where he tries to kill himself after the verdict is out; which he had mentioned to me but we didn't put in the film, I shot it later. It was not in the original script. I thought through this some empathy will come..., he was quoted saying by IANS.

These type of thing always put me in dilemma.
Should I applaud him speaking truth, because of the "Daer Hai, Andher Nahi" concept or bash him for being a chaman hutiya for deliberately trying to fool people until he made money and after he made the money, now throwing the man who has a huge contribution to his success under the bus.

I will stick to the latter, and call Hirani an asshole.

Looks like he is really trying to get rid of Sanjay n his baggage. There seems to be some truth to him pursuing SRK for next edition of munnabhai. Coz here he is clearly saying Sanjay is not a good man and people hated him after seeing first cut. The people here I assume are the chopra's, actors n technicians of Sanju.

he is saying wat we all already know and saw through the movie, ofcourse hirani created sympathy for sanju, the whole film was trying to make sanju look like a misunderstood scared person who just made wrong decisions but ultimately he is a 'hero' for surviving all the 'injustices' that happend to him

and so wen hirani showed the first cut to a audience they hated sanju, so it means the actual real story of sanju that hirani created showed him as someone that people had no sympathy for, very interesting for hirani to reveal this

He is still not really 'confessing' anything. He is just saying yes we added some stuff to create empathy cos he is the hero but all the stuff actually happened and we weren't making up anything 🤪 He has just slightly moved on from 'no whitewashing and no empathy' stance. Few years down the line, we can probably expect him to say 'yes there was some cinematic liberty involved but its cinema and we can take liberty cos we need to make it entertaining'. And then two decades later when he writes an autobiography, he can finally say 'yes I did it for a friend cos am a good friend and I had to make money out of it cos am a successful director' 😆

A balanced movie is in which one shows good and bad of the person in question, after all we are all
humans, and we all have good and bad in our personalities, and that's exactly what sanju did, If hirani only showed bad parts initially then raju was wrong and he had to change that, all of India knows Sanjay dutt as a golden hearted victim and some glimpses of that had to be shown.

Sanjay should be vary of hirani n vidhu. The way they r talking after they made money of sanjay n sanju is weird. Vidhu atleast is not talking about sanjay adversely. But I did not like the words hirani used. That man is up to something.

Meh. The movie is a blockbuster, and everyone is in love with sanju's real personality, social media and Raju's interviews are irrelevant now, it is only relevant for people who are obsessed with social media. I think raju is just being stupid and taking media questioning very seriously, he needs to stop that and celebrate the aam junta reactions! I hope he is not dumb enough to fall prey to the media, otherwise he will became the same kind of person he mocked in the movie! A person who takes media too seriously! Also I don't think raju said anything wrong, he said that initially the empathy wasn't there and that is not correct, and that the audience did not connect to it, and as a filmmaker it is his duty to create empathy for the main character, rather than just showing all his bad deeds and making it an unbalanced movie and biopic. And I think he is exaggerating the part of having no sympathy for him, just to show how unbiased he is with sanju, like the movie clearly showed how much he suffered in spite of not being part of terrorism, that in itself evokes sympathy, the attempt of suicide actually doesn't, one of the times when I felt ranbir is not doing good acting, that scene seemed forced.

^ his words sound more in line of him dropping probably both sanjay and arshad from munnabhai. As if he is preparing the ground before he makes announcements...Which in my opinion is stupidity. No one else can be munnabhai or circuit and this even SRK agreed when he saw munnabhai mbbs.
