Sanju behind the scenes: Ranbir Kapoor put hours in gym to look like Sanjay Dutt

The biggest takeaway from Rajkumar Hirani's

is Ranbir Kapoor's top notch performance. Even as Ranbir plays a flawed character onscreen, he is effortlessly flawless. From his looks to voice and accent and body language to gait, the Tamaasha actor moulded himself for Sanju.

In a recent behind-the-scene- video, the makers have shared the effort, sweat and tears that went into making Ranbir look like Dutt.

Ranbir revealed in the video why he was apprehensive of taking up the film. In fact, he had pledged not to do the film if he did not manage to look like him. He said, "I'm not him, I can never be him. There's only one Sanjay Dutt."

He also admitted that he "detests the gym", but because Dutt is a big fitness freak, he "took it up as a challenge". Ranbir put in a lot of hours in the gym to get a physique like Dutt.

"Sanjay Dutt represents an epitome of body building and if I had to play him on screen, body was essential," Ranbir said. The Rockstar actor also recalled one of his key moments which was when Sanjay Dutt walked in to see the shooting.

They roped in three-time National Award winner, make-up artist Vikram Gaikwad, prosthetics expert Clover and Aalim Hakim so that the make-up was on point.

However, the efforts brought positive results at the ticket window. The film has crossed the Rs 200-crore mark in the first week of its release.
