Last year, Star Screen presented the Best Actor in a Comic Role award to Abhishek Bachchan (Bunty Aur Babli). This year, when the organisers approached him to perform at their award night, they were stumped when he demanded a whopping Rs 1.5 crore for the January 6 function.

Says our well-informed source, "The unreasonable amount sent Star representatives into a tizzy. They tried to negotiate but when Abhishek did not relent, they dropped him.

Star Screen was very keen to have Abhishek do the finale act, but they couldn't pay a totally unjustified price. Even SRK doesn't take that kind of money. So now, another big but reasonable star will perform in Abhishek's place."

Date problems

When contacted, Sandeep Khosla (Vice President, Indian Express) who will direct the show, confirms that they wanted Abhishek to perform but denies any monetary issues. "Fifteen days back, we contacted Abhishek for the finale act. But he did not have dates for rehearsals.

He was shooting for Goldie Behl's film and said he would not be able to give time for drills. This year, we are having our awards early instead of mid-January. Our talks did not reach the stage where we needed to discuss money, but yes, we definitely do have a different budget allocation for different acts."

Consequently, Star Screen had to talk to other biggies for the finale act but Khosla won't disclose the name they have zeroed in on.

"GS Entertainment's Bunty Walia handles Abhishek's work and Star Screen was talking to him. Talk to Bunty about this," he suggests.

Walia, meanwhile, covers up for Abhishek but does not deny that money was spoken about. "The price was not the reason why Abhishek is not doing the Star Screen awards. He did not have the dates. He could not accommodate them as he was informed very late."

But a top Star official confirms, albeit indirectly, "Even if Abhishek did ask for that kind of money, we do not want to talk about it in public. This is an in-house matter."

😆 1.5 crore??? thank goodness he won't be performing.

I love to see him performing...
maybe this is why they didnt nominate him for Best actor in a supporting role

I dunno...he deserved to be nominated anyways...n if he is angry abt that...his anguish is justified...but maybe not in the right sportsmanspirit😭

btw, 1.5 crores...wow...too much that is I agree..I hope this is only a fake rumour

OR.. since he did not get a nomination, he demanded 1.5 crores 😆😆😆
