Sad endings always leave a dry feeling in my mouth, but they are also more memorable than happy endings. Even if Shiuli had recovered, we can't say if she and Dan had ended up together. We never really know her true feelings for Dan. It would've needed a sequel for their "love" story to get a conclusion.
Interesting to see people coming up with different interpretations of the movie. Yeah, the movie was like an abstract art, the story and message will be viewed differently by individuals.

Despite his irritable nature & idiosyncrasies😆 Dan used to help them out earlier as well, very small instances like bringing the scotch bottles, or changing the tyre of her car...

And when he got to know about her last coherent sentence was "Where is Dan?" it became a hook for him, in the process he discovered the purpose of (his) life...
Last name she uttered before dying was also Dan, last alphabet she wrote was also 'D', last person who saw?! her soul was also Dan ❤️

October is beyond beautiful, sooo layered & well nuanced, that with every watch I discover some new subtlety.

So he never gets to know. Sigh. My head is already spinning.

I absolutely loved the ending of the film. The whole love story was left unsaid and open to interpretation. Dan being in love with her before the accident or them confessing their feelings or Shiuli surviving would have actually diluted the impact of the story.

Agree & personally never saw a happily ever after for those 2

@Vintage_Wine- No he never got to know why she asked "Where is Dan?" right before her fatal accident, but there wasn't any big revelation as such, it was a casual question on Shiuli's part, but became the revolving point of his life, the way he understood every unsaid emotion of her thereon is simply beautiful...
