Iconic designer Kate Spade passed away on
Tuesday morning at the age of 55. She was
found dead in her Manhattan apartment.
She committed suicide and hanged herself
in her home in New York City. She was
pronounced dead on the scene. Law
enforcement sources confirmed to TMZ that
she was found at 10:20 AM ET on Tuesday. A
staff member found Kate Spade at her
apartment on Tuesday morning.
"Katherine Brosnahan, a 55 year-old female
was pronounced deceased at 850 Park
Avenue," a DCPI spokesperson told BuzzFeed
News.
As per Associated Press, a suicide note was
found at the scene. However, the content of
the note is not known yet.
Kate Spade was an icon in the fashion
industry and revolutionized designing. She
worked with Mademoiselle' magazine in the
80s and entered the fashion scene.
She met Andy Spade while attending Arizona
State University and together, they launched
Kate Spade handbags in 1993. The brand is
synonymous to high quality clothing and
jewelery line. However, the hand bag
division is the most renowned.
Kate had sold her company in 2007 to take
time off to raise her daughter. She returned
to the industry by launching a fashion brand
called Frances Valentine, named after her
daughter in 2016.
Kate is survived by her daughter, Frances
Beatrix Spade who is 13 and husband Andy
Spade.
Since the news of her death, fans on social
media have been offering their condolences
to the celebrated designer.
