Haina.. his devotion, and there's some magnetic pull in his songs even when we don't understand them, maybe because he's such an influence over South Indian music lovers, IDK hehe :p but there's something very hypnotic about those compositions... and in Thyagaraja songs, some of them end with with him referring himself "Thyagaraaja", in the lyrics.. i get goosebumps almost everytime when I hear his name..

Yes, telugu is my mother tongue. 😃

Yes, Thyagaraja, Shyama Shastri and Muthuswami Dikshitar were considered the Trinity of Carnatic music and they all used a signature "mudra" in their compositions. "Thyagaraja" appears in all of Thyagarja's works which were mostly on Lord Rama, while Shyama Shastri used "Shyama Krishna" in all his songs which were on Devi or Parvati. They both wrote songs in Telugu. Dikshitar's songs had "Guru guha" appearing in all of them (Mahaganpatim being one of his most famous ones, also Ranga pura vihara) and he wrote in Sanskrit. Purandara Dasa preceded these saints and his songs were on Vitthala, his signature being "Purandara Vitthala". He wrote in Kannada. There were others like Papanasam Sivam who was a Tamil poet, his signature mudra was Ramadasan.
Listen to this amazing Carnatic acapella in Nalinakanthi raagam by the students of a music school in the US called Indian Raga. They're extremely good.

@Angel: I loved the Shape of you mash-up! So well done. These guys are talented!
My favorite performances ; well, there are soo many.
I love M. S Subbulakshmi's Balaji Pancharatnamala series. It plays on loop for days on end at my place. It has 5 volumes, and I cannot find it on Youtube anywhere !
I also love her 11 languages album. She sung in Sanskrit, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Gujrati, Hindi. There was supposedly another song in the album but I cannot remember the language or the song. Cannot find links to any of these on Youtube!

Balamurali Krishna's Utsava Sampradaya Kritis of Thygaraja is a great album! My favorites are Meluko Vayya and Uyyala looga vaiyya. But the entire album is lovely. The arrangement is so good.

Another perennial favorite album is Lalgudi Jayaraman's Thillanas. This is one of them in Desh raag.

The rest of them show up in the playlist. So well-composed and arranged. The violin ensemble is mind-boggling as are all the other instruments. His thillanas are sung in concerts nowadays, they're so popular!

I love Balamurali Krishna's self-composed thillana in Brindavani.

Oh Wow !
Congrats and how wonderful that you've been trained and are singing carnatic music.
Must admit, I am a bit envious. I am a recent 'convert' to indian music, but have been learning a lot about it. My knowledge was rather limited to music from movies.. but I've researched separately about Lata, Asha and other Northern greats. And about AR Rahman, Arijit Singh and other great male voices.. It was, mostly, the Northern style of singing.
But it is really recent that I have realised that there is such a huge wealth of music in the South too - and it is through Baahubali, Eega and other Southern movies that I have become acquainted with this huge field of music- and Dance too. I have now watched tons of documentaries and videos and I am mightily impressed.
The first video Angel posted in this thread- I am literally singing along. I've repeated it so much my mother is giving me funny looks- and she loves Indian music!
