This is absolutely Stop Press! news. A
massive fire broke out on the sets of
Akshay Kumar's film Kesari in Wai today
where the climax of the period drama was
being shot. The climax, which is the actual
Battle of Saragarhi that was fought
between 21 Sikh soldiers of the British
Indian Army and 10,000 Pashtun Orazkai
tribesmen of the North West Indian Frontier
in 1897, included much breathtaking sword
and gun fights and some gritty hand-to-
hand combat while bomb explosions were
taking place all around.
One such gigantic explosion, that was to
knock down the walls of the Gulistan Fort
that was constructed on the sets of the film,
cased sparks to fly in the wind. And the
next thing people working on the film
knew, the entire sets of Kesari that's being
produced by Dharma Productions, Cape of
Good Films and Azure Entertainment, were
up in flames. In minutes, it was a raging
conflagration that destroyed all the
property.

climax of Kesari has Akshay Kumar injured
and resting
Fortunately, though the sets are completely
gutted and shooting on Kesari has been
called off for the time being, there were no
casualties. Nobody among the cast and
crew suffered even a scratch. Everybody
was swiftly moved out of danger because
the producers of this historic film had taken
all safety measures before hand. The Satara
district Fire Brigade rose to the occasion
and rushed to the sets in Wai to fight the
inferno. Several ambulances were also
ordered to the scene. But there were no
injuries. Only the massive blaze had to be
dealt with.
A still of Akshay Kumar from Kesari
At the time of writing this, Akshay Kumar
returned to Mumbai. Just last week, like his
braveheart character Havildar Ishwar Singh
in the war drama, the actor suffered an
injury and had to take a break from
shooting. The Bollywood action superstar
was advised rest for the painful injury he
took to the ribs while filming the climax of
Kesari. Akshay refused to return to Mumbai
that time and after resting for a day,
resumed shooting and continued the heavy
duty fight sequences he was involved in.
