She used to be one my favorite actresses. Still is. There's an easy warmth to her acting that's very appealing. But my God! The comment she made!

Is this a case of honestly not realizing the terrible conditions faced by the average woman or does she not give a damn because it doesn't affect her?

From female infanticide to lack of education (in certain societies) to the groping in the trains to the lack of equal pay, women have a lot of barriers to overcome. And here she is, making a proclamation that women's empowerment is an unnecessary endeavor.

Not just Juhi...I have seen quiet a few of others in her generation of 90s actresses who make similar statements like Rani, Kajol. Even the newer lot dig a little deeper and they would have somewhere made similar statements like Katrina, Kareena, Sonakshi. I think more than anything else for people like them it stems from the sort of roles they did in their careers and sort of people they worked with and also what was considered a success in their times. Its also a case of inability to move on with the times-atleast the way they think.

I think she wanted to mean it in some other way... like Women are born strong and they need to realize it, but it came out totally wrong... I get her point about home-makers and how they are also working as much as a career women. But the point about women empowerment not needed, was actually not needed.
