Prernaa Arora doesn't believe in being a feminist; says she's someone who believes in a man's world

Producer Prernaa Arora has steadily emerged as one of the biggest producers in Bollywood. She's been working with the biggest of stars, making big-budget films and winning awards, too. Her last film, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was a hit and garnered great response from the audience and critics alike, and she continues her association with actor Akshay Kumar in his upcoming film, Padman. The trailer of the film released on Friday and is already creating waves for its storyline, which is about a man developing low-cost sanitary napkins for women.

What makes KriArj, Prernaa's production house back such unconventional subjects? She says, "Our aim has been to make films jo bheed se alag hain, jo kabhi aaya nahi, kisi ne dare nahi kiya (to make films that are unique and not seen before). Akshay sir brought a revolution with Toilet... and agreed to a script, which he knew many actors had rejected. He took a big step and we were with him in this together. Normally, people don't believe in your films until they prove themselves at the box-office.

Asked if it's any tough being a female boss in an industry which has mostly been dominated by men, she has an interesting take. "I am not a feminist. I respect every man, get inspired by them, and they are my role models. You need to know your skills perfectly as a producer, the know-how of the tactics and business. I don't think there's any botheration if you have those skills I learn from males; I find them superior. I am not into that auratein mahaan hoti hain'. Sab mahaan hote honge, but I am someone who believes in a man's world. I am being honest.

Here's the exciting lineup of her films for the next year Fanne Khan with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, Vishal Bhardwaj's untitled film with Deepika Padukone and Irrfan, Kedarnath starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Saif Ali Khan's daughter Sara Ali Khan, Pari a joint production with Anushka Sharma and Parmanu starring John Abraham and Diana Penty.

What the f**k. Why would she say something as dumb as this? I thought she was a really smart woman.

Hope she was misquoted.

Why did she open mouth of hers? 🤔

I disagree ,I believe women always have been the superior gender and this has been their world seized by men who cannot handle the idea of them being in charge.

I know alot of educated urban women who think like this... Though I do hope that she is misquoted and she simply meant that she learnt from her mentors who are male... But i wouldn't be shocked otherwise

I don't understand why there is such a misunderstanding about the term feminism. Being a feminist does not mean not respecting men.

Sigh.

Her quote is wrong on many levels. One need not be a feminist to believe in the strength of a woman. Being a feminist simply means you are an advocate of rights and equality of women. You don't have to be anti-man to be pro-woman. No matter who you are and how you want to be defined, if you believe in the strength of a woman you're embracing feminism. When a woman gives up her power then you have to question if she truly knows her self worth.

Some b/w celebrities still prefer keeping the 'feminist' tag away. They assert "I'm not feminist". Here she claims "men are superior" in a rather casual fashion. In today's age if someone shies away from being associated with feminism or from being called a feminist it means they don't stand for equality and rights for women. It's ridiculous to look down upon the feminism movement. The stigma attached to this is because of the misconceptions people have that feminism is anti-men.

She may be an influential person today. But she is where she is because of feminism. For ages, women have faught hard for their rights and position against patriarchy and gender bias to reach where they are today. She is simply reaping the benefits, discounting the ideologies behind it.
