They have been repeating the name like mantra on TV, Radio, newsreels for decades now not just for family planning also for the purpose of hiv/aids cases reduction

They are free at family planning centers and I heard recently they've started an online free delivery service

instead of quoting 2RsFan's comment i quoted it along with ur comment 😆

With all this focus on menstrual hygiene I really wish they talk of sustainable options like cups and cloth pads

use of cups causes toxic shock syndrome .. Disposable pads might harm environment but are safe. We have many other ways to save environment so leave pads alone

No way in hell would I have wanted a party when I got my period for the first time! It's already an awkward time in your life when your body is going through all types of changes. The last thing I would want is a ton of attention from my family and friends - no thank you.
It's great to advocate for girls Akshay but you aren't one yourself...this does feel like movie promotions going a bit too far, lol.

Most of the Indian states do not have waste disposal units. Everything is dumped on the villages sarrounding the cities. With the huge population that India has, disposal of diapers or sanitary pads can become environmental problem.
Cloths are environmental friendly, but can be unhygienic. (Diapers is not used daily in India, as much as in west. But sanitary pads are). Menstrual cup may be the future for India.

He feels that the way festivals like Holi and Diwali are celebrated, people should also "celebrate when a girl meets with her puberty. "When you celebrate it, the girl who is already going through a physical and hormonal transition, will feel confident and secure. But we excluded our women from the normalcy of life during those five days. So from the first experience, women feel that period is something they should hide. So you know where we should start from, he added.

How nonsensical his statement sounds! Isn't Akki taking promotions little too far? "Celebrate puberty rituals" - For what? Will it earn more respect for her? Or will the stigma finally be separated from the natural phenomena? The answer is NO.

In several places puberty rituals take place - to celebrate the fertility of a girl and discriminate against her as a reproduction tool. And for announcing to the world that there is nothing wrong with her physical development, the girl has become fertile and valuable to society as a bearer of children. Won't it be embarrassing for the lass to go through the spotlights for so private a functionality?

It may be a far-fetched scheme/plan for Government to introduce the distribution of free sanitary pads considering its resources and the overall rural population. But GST on them can be definitely slashed to make it less expensive as many women in rural areas still can't afford basic menstrual hygiene products.
