Guess Who?
Like everything else in tinsel town, relationships and reputations change in keeping with the fate of your last release, as this director is discovering.
Not too long ago, this director was at the top of virtually every leading star's wishlist of people they wanted to be directed by. Most of them would have blindly agreed to any role offered by him without even reading the script. However, with the last couple of his releases underwhelming at the box office, that seems to have changed.
Recently, the director approached a leading man with his latest subject. And this wasn't just another star but someone with whom the director shares a very close personal rapport, borne out of their previous films together. However, the actor politely declined. The director then took the role to another young star... and got the same response: No, thanks!'
Well, that's the way the cookie crumbles in our industry. The director can take heart from the fact that should his next film succeed at the ticket counter, the same folks will call him to enquire about what he plans on doing next and how they would love to be a part of it!
