Padmavati: CBFC says that Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie will be reviewed and certified as per set norms
The Central Board of Film Certification has refused work faster for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati has been mired in controversies ever since its announcement. Protests against the film are becoming more fierce.
Even after the makers of Padmavati deferred the release of the historical drama following nation-wide protests on Sunday, the voices against the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum-opus refused to die down a day later.
Now, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has refused to expedite the process of certification of the film. A leading news agency today tweeted, 'Turning down plea of #Padmavati makers, CBFC said that the movie will be reviewed and certified as per set norms of following chronological order of all applications.''
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had returned the film to the makers because the application didn't mention if Padmavati was a work of fiction or based on historical facts. The makers had then held a private screening of the film for some select journalists who consequently stood up for the fact that the film doesn't hurt any sentiments and in fact upholds Rajput pride.
CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi criticised the private screenings and had said, "Disappointing that the film Padmavati is being screened for the media and getting reviewed on national channels without CBFC having seen or certified the film. This compromises the role of systems and balances that are part of a functioning industry. It's myopic to treat the certification process haphazardly to suit convenience.
Bhansali's upcoming film's release has been delayed due to protests from several groups like Shri Rajput Karni Sena and Kshatriya Mahasabha. The film was due for release on December 1.
Padmavati stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.
