OT...He is absolutely right and the onus of older women not getting work lies on us the audience ...not the producer...and those who are saying that the Khans have a say in what actress they star opposite..yes they do...but they can't make the audience come and watch a movie...as simple as that...bash karna bahut aasaan hai stars ko...but abhi Madhuri aur Juhi ki movie lagi thee Gulabi gang...koi gaya dekhne?? baat karte hain...iss forum per the older actresses are called Aunties and what not...but ek actor ne sachhi baat bol dee toh he is a douche😳
I think the solution is multidimensional. The discarding of older women is so culturally pervasive that it will take time and effort from many sides to change.
Yes, we audiences determine who succeeds. We the audience determine what is acceptable and unacceptable. As long as we reject older women and accept men romancing girls half their age there is no incentive for filmmakers to change things. Afterall filmmaking is a business, not charity.
That being said everyone in the film industry also has the responsibility to push audiences outside their comfort zone and make them accept something different. Writers need to write scripts that give women good roles. Producers and directors should be willing to invest in films that are different. Actors can insist on age and wage parity in films.
I wouldn't blame SRK squarely. He has made films like Dear Zindagi and Chak De India where he sidestepped to let some female leads shine. But he can do better. You can hold him accountable to higher standards without blaming or bashing.
