Lemon, on the other hand, is acidic af. It has a pH of 2. It makes you sensitive to sunlight, and other than that, it is phototoxic - which means you'll get sunburn, rashes, blisters etc. easily.

Probably should've specified that these things won't work for everyone. OP asked what we personally used, so I simply shared that :)

Coconut oil's comedogenic yeah but there's a difference between the refined or processed and virgin coconut oil variety. Virgin coconut oil's best for use on face in hair etc. As far as I'm aware 'virgin' coconut oil is non-comedogenic. In any case, I always think the best approach to these things is use by trial, like testing it on another body part to check for allergies. I usually check on my elbow.

Personally, virgin coconut oil helped me a LOT with my acne. Using it gently on skin, in moderation worked wonders for me. But again, this'll depend person to person.

As for the lemon yeah it's acidic. Don't think it's that harmful if used in conjunction with say, honey. Which is what I did. 2 Tbsp honey to half a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice. But I'll reiterate, all this depends on how an individual reacts to it.

No, virgin coconut oil is still comedogenic. It just means that it hasn't been treated. You're probably confusing it with fractionated coconut oil - that one isn't comedogenic.

I'm sorry, I haven't gone through the whole thread. Didn't know TM was asking for personal experience.

Also cocnut oil- do you just smear it on your or add it to something else?

With the coconut oil, use the 'virgin' coconut oil. I had dry skin, so I used it every time I washed my face in the morning, and once before sleeping too. Washed my face, pat dried it with a towel, and then used a small amount of coconut oil (it's important not to use TOO much!) and massaged it very gently on my face. I left it for like 5 minutes then used a clean tissue to clean off an excess oil.

For oily skin, you pretty much do the same expect after you've let it absorb, rinse off your face with lukewarm water and then pat dry it.

Honestly I use coconut oil for my scalp, when I shave my legs, as a body moisturizer...loads of stuff lol. The key is always just to be careful to use a small amount, in moderation 😊

Honey and egg/lemon face mask - I use once a week, otherwise it can dry out your skin. But yeah, it's great to lighten scars/blemishes, gives you a glow. Fights acne bacteria, from what I've read.

I've made a cucumber and yoghurt face mask - it's fine for all skin types. Lactic acid is a good skin exfoliater, plus in conjunction with cucumber it really helps 'cool' the skin. I mostly use this one during summer, once or twice a week.

As for avocado, I don't use this one often as avocado is expensive and I don't wanna go broke lol 😆 Just slap that ish on your face, leave it one for 10 minutes or so and rinse off with lukewarm water. This is a great one for those with dry skin/acne etc.

I've extremely sensitive skin which doesn't respond well at all to lemon juice, besan, curd which many others love using. Weirdly home-made chilled curd suits you but in small quantities. It really spends on your skin-type & people really need to know their skin type before venturing forth into the natural skin-care route. It's not always safe.

Pyaari_Puja: I use a little home-made curd/milk with powdered green gram daal, lot of S Indians use it too & it's a staple in some parts of SI. I use this weekly. Also use a mud mask by a skincare line called Forest Essentials, nagkesar-sandalwood. If you're Indian/know people who visit you in India, then try getting this from them because the shipping rates are too expensive!! Otherwise any nice mud mask will do. If you've dry skin, avacado! Or raw honey + oatmeal + milk.

Coconut water & peppermint tea are 2 things by which I do see a difference in my skin. But nothing beats exercise to put radiance & life into your skin. Nothing.

Ah yeah I could have it confused. I mean, again, it's worked for me so I shared my experience. Everyone's skin is different and everyone reacts differently. And I'm of the belief that regardless of it's rating on the comedogenic scale, putting on a thick layer of any type of oil's gonna clog ya pores. So using a teeny amount of it is key.

No worries, s'all good :)

I use virgin coconut oil to remove my eye makeup & it works fine but I make sure to wash it all off my face because my skin is highly sensitive! I try not to mess with my skin a lot but I am too much of a brushy junkie to not do so, lolll

Ah I feel ya. Perhaps not as much as you, but I have sensitive skin too, that's why I only use natural products on my face now. And I gotta be careful which ONES I use too. But it takes a little experimentation ya know? I remember years ago I'd made a face mask that had apple cider vinegar in it and by f**k did my face react like anything 😆 Next time I diluted the apple cider vinegar with water and it was fine.

Ooh that dahi plus gram daal one sounds good. Might give it a go, thanks!

@bold - Spot on!

And ugh, of course. The most effective tareeka is the one in which I gotta huff and puff. Exercise 🤔😆

:)

Btw, not any oil would clog your pores. For example hemp oil, safflower oil, prickly pear oil, camellia oil and some others don't clog the pores.
It's the heavier ones like coconut oil, flax seed oil etc. that have very high chances of clogging pores and other than that they're not recommended for people who have acne prone skin.
