Everything disappointed me about the Ghoomar song. I have watched it four times now. Let me make a quick list:
A) The colourist effed up! It looks like a muddy wash. I cannot tell colour red apart from green. Everything is painted light brown. They went too far!
B) The composition of the song is horrible and predictable, relying only on the word "Ghoomar" and there's a lack of dramatic lyrics. Traditional Rajasthani instruments (like the ravanahatha) should have been used more than the generic dhols.
C) The space is not utilised to the fullest. This is unlike Nagada Sang Dhol and Deewani Mastani that used space in interesting variety. Everything in Ghoomar looks claustrophobic despite the scale and the budget.
D) Production design sucks compared to the previous two songs (Nagada Sang Dhol and Deewani Mastani). There's nothing new to look here. The floor is empty. Fire element could have been used more. It's a bland and colourless wasteland.
E) Composition of the song aside, Shreya's vocal felt outdated around the middle. It felt like she was singing a song from the 90s. This might just be me.
F) Sanjay didn't bring anything new to the shots. We have the same entry of the heroine, the rotating background dancers,
the same distant shots through a gateway,
and an ostensible female antagonist eyeing hungrily at the heroine etc.
What a letdown.
